We lost Jasmine. She was fine on Friday morning (wheeking for her veggies) but by Friday evening had stopped eating. This morning she could hardly move and her breathing was bad. I managed to get a vet appointment at 10.30 by which time she had deteriorated even more. The vet said there was really nothing she could do and the best thing would be to help her pass peacefully. I am so upset (as is my husband), my sweet little singing piggie was so young and deserved a longer life. I am not sure the steroids actually helped at all but who knows.

I don't know whether to get Daisy a new friend. She has already lost two sisters, Rosie her true sister and now Jasmine. Daisy is a dominant pig and it took her a while to accept Jasmine so I am nervous about trying to introduce yet another sister, but Daisy is still young and I am not sure it is fair to deny her a friend. Any thoughts on this greatly appreciated.

Oh how awful I'm so sorry to read that, I had to have one of my boys put to sleep last Friday & it was so upsetting. He was only 21 months old. I am now tackling the problem of finding a friend for his brother as I feel it unfair for him to live alone now.

I'm no expert on pairing up as I've never done it, but it is probably a good idea to maybe try find her a friend that she likes. But I don't know, I guess some prefer being on their own?! Whatever you think is best x

So sorry to hear you lost a piggy too. It is even sadder when they are so young.

I have never had any problems introducing boys or girls, Daisy is my first "difficult" piglet. I think she deserves a friend and I know of a beautiful little white baby girl looking for a new home. It took Daisy a day or two to fully accept Jasmine, when she first saw her she adopted an aggressive stance and rattled her teeth at her. I really thought she was going to bite her. After a couple of days though they were as happy as anything.

Good luck with finding a friend for your boy.

It is heartbreaking when you have to let such a young piggy go - especially after you have done all you could!

RIP Jasmine - you are much loved and will be very much missed

I had a GP with that condition.. It had spread to all her lymph nodes, and the vet adminstered a steroid injection.. I'm pretty sure that sped her symptoms along, as she died of respiration failure on the same day..
Whether or not the steroids helped her or not we'll never know, my girlie was quite advanced in her condition, could have gone either way, just wasn't meant to be :(

My heart sank when I read this. I am so sorry. How tragic after all you went through together. :( I am so sorry. I would get your little one a friend by taking her to a rescue were she can choose her own friend.

Thanks

I miss Jasmine so much, I tried so hard to get her better but it just wasn't to be.

Does anyone know of any rescues in Oxfordshire? I have decided to get Daisy a rescue friend but she really will need some input in the process as she is quite picky about friends. I think she misses Jasmine and I miss them burbling away to each other, the piggy room is much too quiet :-(

Thanks

The nearest PiggyBank rescue is Hazelcroft Rescue which is in RedBourn, not sure if this is too far for you?

Thanks

I have asked my petsitters if they know of any local rescues as well. I will ask my vet as well. I don't want Daisy to be alone for too long, I hate how quiet she is without Jasmine, they used to warble at each other all day, it was so nice to hear. I have been giving her extra hugs but she isn't really a cuddly pig so I am not sure she really appreciate them.

Oh noooooo whee are so sorry to hear about dear Jasmine 8...8...8...
RIP Jasmine run free at the bridge, now popcorning thru the lush green meadows and munching away on sweet dandelion leafies and corn silks, you'll be so very sadly missed by your devastated mum and dad and friend Daisy but NEVER ever forgotten xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) and lots of loves from Glynis, Velvet and Onyx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Another little star now twinkling in the sky .......... :(

I think it's great that you're going to try to find a friend for Daisy, i and the girls wish you and Daisy all the best (please keep us posted) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Just to let you know Daisy has a new sister called Piglet (see my avatar) and she is one happy piggy. Daisy bonded with Piglet almost instantly and has taken on a motherly role. Piglet likes being chased and squeaking alot, the chatter in the guinea pig cage is a joy to hear. Daisy has also started popcorning again, and Piglet finds that most amusing, it sets her off running and squeaking which is very very funny to watch.

I'm so sorry for your loss! It is so hard to lose a pet. They truly are a part of the family. RIP Jasmine, and ((HUGS)) to the family.
We went through a similar circumstance a couple of years ago, where we had a pair of piggies and one of them unexpectedly got sick and died relatively young (about 18 months of age.) The dominant pig (Linney) was the one who was left. I was concerned about introducing another piggie because she was so bossy and I was concerned that another bossy pig would not go over well. If you have the option to 'date' to find a friend, that sounds great! Unfortunately where I am living that doesn't seem to be much of an option. We settled for getting a friend who was still a 'baby' and who appeared to be laid back/submissive to the other pigs in the cage with her. Fortunately, she is pretty meek and she and Linney get along great. Two years later, I'm very glad that we did get another friend for Linney- she is obviously happier as part of a pair. I would just try to match personalities as much as you can.

Great news after such a sad time for you and Daisy. They look very cute together in your avatar.

WELCOME PIGLET TO YOUR LOVELY FOREVER HOME WITH BIG SIS DAISY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
