I have a guinea pig named Ella and I took her to the vet and they said she has high volumes of fluid in the inner ear. But I was told there was nothing they could do to help her. It’s causing bone changes in her skull which can raise the risk of meningitis. Isn’t there a way to get the fluid out?

She also has multiple molars that have root abscesses that are affecting the jaw bone and weakening it. Was told here’s a surgery yes you can do but it’s high risk.

Has anybody dealt with this before?

Hi whereabouts are you located? It's so hard to find a piggy savvy vet and it sounds as though this vet is not one.

I know dental ops can be risky as the anesthetic puts the piggies under stress, but this is the same in any surgery. And the op itself can be difficult as it's such a small animal. How old is Ella? Younger pigs are more resilient and have a slightly higher chance of a successful surgery.

My reply should bump up the thread and members who have had dental surgery on their piggies should be able to help you out further.

I am all the way on the USA(Indiana) I think she’s only 1 she will be 2 in January.

Guinea Lynx has a list of piggy savvy vets in a lot of US States have you looked there to see if there is a vet near you?

I’ll have to look. I am waiting for the 2nd opinion from another vet. My hearts just breaking and I am hoping for something good.
