Junior Guinea Pig
My 2 boars Jenson and Button had a big fall out yesterday. I got them 7 months ago when they were 6 months old from a rescue and have always fought, but nothing serious.
These are my 2 lovely big boys before they fell out. Jenson is on the right, Button is on the left xoxo
Got home from work yesterday to find Button (who was the submissive one) chasing Jenson all around the cage! They didn't stop running about so I had to separate them. Button was going mad, running about frantically trying to get to Jenson, chewing at the bars and then went into his house and started chirping/singing like a bird! Poor Jenson just stayed in his house and wouldn't come out which is really unlike him. They were both behaving out of character which has never happened before and I was really worried for them!
Checked them over and found blood on Jenson. Called the ladies at the rescue and took them over to them straight away. Both piggies have bite marks on them, but the rescue said they are not as serious as some they have seen and they are not infected so the wounds were cleaned up. They described them as grazes children get when they fall over which is good news because I would like to try to rebond them.
Luckily they live in a 2x5 grid c&c cage so I was able to divide the cage in half and separate them straight away. All evening Button was desparate to get to Jenson and was gnawing on the bars, today he has thankfully calmed down and only occassionally gnawing.
I have been told to:
I will be doing the above. Today I had them both out on my bed (plenty of space for them), they were not too bad, they teeth chattered each other but no lunging at each other. I did stop the teeth chattering when they were close up to each other in case it led to a bite by putting a pillow between them and then picked one up and left the other to explore then swapped.
They are 13 months old so probably hormonal and it seems like the submissive one decided they wanted to be the dominant one. They had plenty of space in their 5x2 c&c and I scattered their food so they couldn't fight over that, they had 2 houses, 2 ice pods, 2 hay racks and 2 water bottles so space and environment hopefully wasn't a factor in their fall out. Just hope they become friends again
They are brothers after all and I don't think there are any human brothers that have never fallen out!
This is my pigs now, 24 hours after Button went mad, they've been like this for 30 minutes. I have a camera linked to the internet so I can check them wherever I am. (Button is the one further away, Jenson is black and white)
Palace piggies guinea pig rescue in Crawley have been absolutely amazing with helping me with this and all other boar questions I've had! I really appreciate their support and advice. They are fantastic

I have been told to:
- Divide the cage so they can still see each other and talk to each other
- get them out together on my lap, but separate them if they start fighting. Don't have them out together for too long, only as long as they will tolerate each other
- one day before clean out, swap piggies over into the other ones cage so they get used to the other pigs smell and become more tolerant of it
- get a DAP (anti stress dog thingy)
- do not rush trying to introduce them, boars need a lot of time and patience to rebond
