Poor jimin was squinting his eye last night when I got in from work and it's worse this morning. He can hardly open it.I'm on another 12 hour shift so I'm lucky my friends going to take half a days holiday and take him down the vets for me.I suspect it's hay poke.

Eye problems appear and escalate so quickly in guinea pigs.
Well done for finding a solution for getting him to the vet so quickly.
Don't forget to let us know how he gets on.

Wishing Jimin a speedy recovery, that’s a lovely friend you have there x

Sorry to hear you’ve got an eye injury on your hands, but hope it’s soon sorted. And your friend is a diamond taking him to the vets for you.

Great that you have such good friends! All the best!

Jimin had a piece of hay in his eye that the vet took out and he's got an ulcer. He's on eye drops and he's got to go back Friday.

All the best for a good recovery! If the surface is only scratched but not perforated, then recovery should be pretty straight forward and quick. ;)

Thanks, I hope it's better soon too.The eye looks cloudy, is that normal with an ulcer?

It usually means that the infection has started to penetrate deeper into the eye. I would strongly recommend to get hold of some tear gel from a pharmacy and apply that 4-6 times a day but always wait until at least half an hour after the antibiotic drops to give them time to get absorbed properly for full effect.
As Kim Maddock has explained to me, the tear gel is actually penetrating deeper than the antibiotic and does really help with the healing process, as well as soothing the eye. In my own experience the gel is more effective and longer lasting than any plain tear drops. If necessary say that you are going on a long distance flight but have trouble with the dry air during the flight. ;)

The combination should do the trick. it may take a little longer to clear, though.

Thank you, I will get some and hopefully his eye will start looking better soon :)

Just an update, I took jimin back to the vets today for a check up and the vet said the ulcer is gone and to continue with the drops for a few days and they shouldn't need to see him again.I was very happy to hear that and quite shocked it had healed so quickly.

Fab news. It’s your attention and then getting him prompt treatment that has really helped. So good to hear he’s ok,
