Leaving work in half hour to take Joe back to the vets he keeps getting chest infections time and time again always had Baytril think he may need something different.

He is totally himself eating the same and popcorning for England he just sounds like a little old man thats smoked 50 a day forever. Bless him.x)

Anyone know of a different antibiotic that they might give him? Think i may suggest he has an xray just to check nothing else is causing him to be so chesty. Think it was Lorna that said piggys sometimes get repeated URI's if they have a heart problem which can easily be treated if it turns out to be something to do with his heart.

Positive vibes for Joey please. x)

Oh good luck Joe. Hope he is ok Lindsay! Worth checking out the heart problem! x

I'm no expert by any means but I'm sure I've heard of Septrin being given before. Not sure if it was for breathing problems though?

Have you thought about contacting Vedra at CCT? She's very good.

Sending HUGE positive vibes and healing thoughts your way! x

I was given Septrin for one of my boars who had a URI, it worked a treat and he was all better within a few days.

Let us know how you get on at the vets.

I had a piggie who had recurrent chest infections and the vet never found what kept causing them. Hope Joe is feeling better soon.

Back from the vets

:)Thanks all for your replies.

The vet seems to think that Joe has a very bad case of Bronchitus that he just cannot shake off properly.

I mentioned his heart and she gave him a really good medical and said his heart is fine, she has prescribed him Septrin which i have to start tomorrow as they had to order it in for him.

She wants him to be on this for a month then i am to take him back even if his chest sounds ok for her to check him over again.

He is still totally fine in himself and he is chuffed to bits now as i have decided to bring him and Jimmy in for the winter just spent an hour setting them up in the kitchen.

Typical we have just spent all that money on the new extension for them and the boys wont be getting the benefit (Girls and Murphy are though)

The boys have spent sometime in before when Joe was ill earlier on in the year funny how they have not forgot where the fridge is lol

Joey saying thanks for being concerned about him x>>

Oh he's so cute! I'm really sorry, I'm going to be zero help with something constructive to say about medicines, but I hope he's ok and on the mend soon Lindsay xx

The antibiotic I would recommend is Zithromax (azithromycin). It's absolutely brilliant for clearing up chest infections, pneumonia etc. My vet has used it with fantastic success when all else has failed. The dose for an average size piggy is 1 ml daily for first five days and then 1 ml on alternative days for another five days.

Get well soon Joe, sorry to hear that you are not feeling so well.

The boys send their love as well

Me Nibbles and Nugget send our love and hope he gets well soon. I know it can be worrying because Nugget had a really bad cold and they tried him on three different antibiotics. The first was baytril, septrim, and then something else which i think was zithromax. I hope this helps.:)

Thanks everyone, picking up his medicine at dinner and i will then come home and give him his first dose.

He is still his bright little self this am eaten all his breaky. I cant believe how well he copes with it, as his chest sounds awful I'm sure if mine sounded half as bad i would be in my bed!:red

Debbie thanks for the meds suggestion i have wrote it down and will suggest that to the vet next if the Septrin does not work.

thanks again

Lindsay and Joex>>

get well soon joe! you gorgeous little man! (Pheobe seems to have taken quite a liking to you, she was just gazing at your photo!) xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks everyone. Joe has to have two lots of his medicine per day just given him his second dose for the day.

Its banana medicine the same as i used to have as a kid!

Joe sends x) to Phoebexoxo

Thanks Fiona, he is chilling out in his new tent. Apart from the loud rattle on his chest you would never guess that anything was wrong bless him he is such a brave little man.

I have put some Olbas oil on a tissue and left in on top of his cage so he can smell it but not reach it just thought it might help him.

x)
