Just a quick question. I started Toffee on Johnsons 4joints a few weeks ago alongside his 2x daily metacam which he's been having for the past year. Obviously I know it doesn't work instantly but I'm wondering how long it should be before I see some difference . Or even if I should see some difference? He's 6.5yrs and has been looking very tired recently :(

Hi

HUGS

I am very sorry. Please have him vet checked. The cause for his tiredness is most likely not related to his arthritis but to old age catching up with him in other ways, like the heart or other major organs.

I can of course only guess.

Thank you Wiebke, I've actually been wondering if I ought to take him to the vet. I'll phone them tomorrow and get an appointment for him.

All the best.

We can unfortunately only guess; but whether it is escalating arthritis or something else, 4joints only helps with the mobility by coating worn-out bare bone joints with glucosamine. The tiredness is not related to anything the 4joints does or doesn't do enough of.

Sorry for the late reply.
I started Toffee on the 4joints because I assumed his arthritis was getting worse and I hoped it would help. As well as the tiredness he seems to be dragging one of his back legs a bit. He is still eager for his veggies and maintaining his weight so that's good. Anyway, he's now booked in at the vet's for tomorrow week, so hopefully we can find out what's going on.

Something else may be going on or his arthritis is worsening. Keep in mind that 4 joints supplement can only do so much for mobility comfort but it is no miracle cure against progressing severe arthritis.

Wishing you and Toffee all the best.

So Toffee now has a new problem - impaction. At least I'm assuming that's what it is. I noticed this morning when I did their weekly weight check he had a sort of plug of poop and hay. I think I've cleared it - I 've never done anything like this before and i was so scared of hurting him, but it seems to be ok now. He did five lovely normal poo's as I was finishing and everything seems to look normal now.
I'm assuming this isn't an emergency and can wait until he sees the vet next Friday? Obviously I'll keep checking him every day now.

Well done you
I'm no expert but I think I've read on here that they can lose some muscle density and impaction can be a side effect of that as such. I'll look for a link on here

I’m sorry to hear this

Impaction occurs when they cannot expel poops properly. There can be several underlying causes with one of those potential causes being arthritis in the back end.

Do have him seen by the vet.
If it continues to happen over the weekend then you may wish to try to bring his appointment forward

Thank you for the link both.
Yes if he continues to have problems I'll phone the vet first thing Tuesday. Of course it would happen on a Bank Holiday weekend ☹️

Hi

Please read the link and the nutritional advice. Mild constipation can often be reversed or slowed down by it.

Hey. I hope toffee is doing okay! My boy is 5 and he also suffers from impaction and arthritis 😫 I know the struggles 😫. There is some great advice on the forums.. and when you get to the vet they will be able to help. Sending love to you and toffee.
