It was clean out night tonight and when cleaning out we notices, small tiny little black flies at the bottom of the cage under the hay rack..... no where else, so we shake the hay and more come out, get the bag of hay out, get some out more flies!

The bag of hay is outside - going back to jolleys tomorrow

Cage deep cleaned, pig's all bathed with lice shampoo, new hay bought, am knacked!

I still have the receipt from the hay, i bought it last monday, i will be taking it back to complain, will i be entitled to anything else other than a refund would you think?

Don't see why not...not fit for purpose. It's contaminated at the end of the day.

Don't ask, don't get I reckon.
Poor little furries x

I am so peeved! Lilly has a small patch of a mites infection on his tummy :(

They are off to the vet tonight and another bath. The others are fine, its just lilly at the moment. GRRR!

Awww poor Lily, hope all goes well at the vets x

Thanks, i noticed it last night, i have been bathing it with salt water and applying sudocream, we have been staying at MIL's so all of our shampoo etc is at home! Luckily were moving back today, trying to get hold of Jan to see if we can take them there tonight to be checked and given extra wormer, do you think he will need a course of baytril?

x

You need to start them all on a course of Ivermectin really if its mites.
Obviously need to disinfect their cages, toys, food bowls etc.

Poor Lilly xx

Yes that is what the lady gives them, i call it wormer as i cant spell it :))

I have just phoned jolleys head office and explained the situation, they have asked me to return the bag to the store and they will refund me and send the bag off for testing...... what is the likelyhood of them admitting anything is wrong with it, she said its very rare for it to happen, at the moment i have kept my cool and gone along with what they have said and i will be returning the bag to them tomorrow.

I just hope we get somewhere with it, i have photo's of poor lilly's tummy.

xx

The bag of hay was dropped off at Jolleys this morning, refund recieved.

The piggles have been to the vets and they said they all look healthy, Lilly as you know has a bald patch on his tummy, but i did the correct thing in bathing him and applying sudocream, they have all been topped up with wormer, but all traces of that hay have completely gone and the pig's have all been bathed with Johnstons incecticidal shampoo.

We also saw our little recue pig George, he is settling in very well, i think he remembered us? But he is very happy and healthy in his new home xx

No more hay!

Unfortunately all hay can have mites in it...we found out the hard way! From now on, just use sawdust and newspaper. The piggies don't mind...plus it's way safer!

I only use hay to feed to them, i dont use it as bedding anyway.

And shavings aren't safe for piggies as the dust can cause URI's.
