I try not to give pet shops any money as I do not think they should be allowed to sell animals.

I did read on here once that they aren't very good, I think someone once mentioned how the animals were kept and they were very unhappy about their conditions but that doesn't mean they're all the same.

However I'm the same as piggyfan, i use Just 4 Pets as its by my work so very convenient and they don't sell animals and I use Dobbies as they sell the best hay by me and they loook after their animals very well, nice spacious enclosures and only sell piggies in pairs (when they even have them).
But that's just my personal opinion :)

Piggyfan i don't think she was implying 'i'm going here to spend lots of money', she was clearly asking if anyone has heard of it because she's having a nose rolleyes .

I've not heard of it though tbh, where is it?
I sometimes use 'just 4 pets' but i'm dubious about them =/

The one near us do not sell livestock so I have no problem using it. They have some good offers sometimes and I like their piggy stuff, vet bed is reasonably priced and they have some lovely striped designs :))
The Blackcurrant and Oregano pellets by Excel were £3.99 per bag last week so bought extra as all of my piggies love these x)

I think it just depends where * are in the country doesn't it? I like my just 4 pets as it's cheap, no livestock and good choice but apparently some of them sell animals? I don't know, you gotta go with your instincts.

Yeah i think it is, we have two here, its just that when i enquired in one they kept pigs in with rabbits and i mentioned that they really shouldn't, i may as well have been given the middle finger. mallethead

yes we have one nearby, i doesn't sell animals just food etc:)

Yeah, I just wanted to see what it was like!
The nearest one to me would be Runcorn or Huyton
Dobbies have just opened by us but they don't have much things in the animal care side, they don't have any animals only fish!

I LOVE JOLLYES.

bought my two piggies there, my closest store is plymouth, and all the staff are knowledgable and friendly, they still have my piggies back to have there nails trimmed when i bought my cage the water bottle was terrible and they gave us a better one for free also they gave us a big ceramic bowl (think thats what it's called) for veggies for the piggies, i couldn't recommend my local jollyes enough ! the staff are all in late 30's + and i think in pet shops older staff are better as they have more respect for the animals.
but yeah love jollyes fair priced and friendly nothing to complain about :)

Hi twiams! I agree with you - the Plymouth store is fab! I got my Patchy and Scruffbum from them and they really are very knowledgable. I go in there most weeks to buy stuff and have a chat. Interesting to see that you take yours back there for claw trims - hmmm, I may give that a try *** my babies are terrible wrigglers lol!

When I went to get a new indoor cage for my Patchy, the guy there told me that the cage I was looking at was way too small for 2 piggles. When I told him it was for a single boar who gets loads of floor time daily he said oh that's fine. I was so pleased that he actually said something though! So many staff in pet shops dont know their onions.

xx

the bridgwater jollies dosent sell animals and I found there was much more choice and much better priced than the P@H in weston (which does sell animals). It is a good half hour drive for me though and I have a better alsortment of pet shops that are small and dont sell animals closer to home, plus my friend that goes to pet shop wholesalers.

We bought our trio's cage from Jollyes. The one near us does not sell pets. The staff were very helpful. Hope this helps :)

Hey tylerina :)

Yeah, before we'd even bought my piggies and just considered it the woman went around and priced everything up with us, telling us what we needed and stuff.

In an earlier post someone laughed at the fact i said Sandra (the woman who looks after the pets in store) kept her pigs in to get a feel of the personality and just for regular checks, but if you go in there and ask she knows who's shy who likes cuddles what there fave veg are, just like any other actual pet owner.

And BTW.
If you wanna take your piggies back to get there nails cut, the woman who does it is in all day Sunday and some other days, the best thing to do is just call up and ask! my piggies have been twice and they're getting better at it, i guess its probably the woman who does it (forgot her name) is confidence and the piggies probably sence it where as I'm too nervous !

I use Jolleys all the time because I can buy some things in bulk which I need for the rescue and works out reasonable in price. (Its specially ordered and with a discount being a rescue). I've always found our local store well stocked and the staff pleasant and helpful. Having said that, our store do not sell animals and I was under the impression none of the stores did, just food and things. I would certainly have not supported them if they did sell animals as I wouldn't like to think I'm encouraging it.

Yes
We have a good one in Chippenham - it doesnt sell any animals and the lady on the till has piggies mice rabbits and all sorts of animals herself - she was a great source of advice and help when I first went in there - doesnt try to sell you stuff for the sake of it either - quite often have wagg or excell on buy one get one free offers:))
