As you probably know Jules had his teeth trimmed two weeks ago and has been having a wee struggle when eating - we have grated veggies as far as posisble and he has been nibbling these and also seen taking a cabbage leaf off Maurice :))

He is now down to 830g and is really worrying us :( we have syringed him some recovery food but wondered if there is anything else we can try until his teeth grow back please

Thanks

Karen x

Nuggets (P@H own brand) soaked then fed via syringe, or if he'll take it straight from the bowl, the better;), put some probiotics in the mix, so he's getting all the nutrients, weetabix soaked is also nice for them x

awww poor thing, could it maybe stand some porridge oats, perhaps with a little water mixed in?

Thanks he is taking the recovery food much to his disgust and he has had a few pieces of mushy cucmber gonna soak pellets and see if he will take them as he had been eating the grated veg but think he has got fed up of it though we persevere will get some weetabix and oats tomorrow

thanks I will try this in the morning as he has had mushy cucmber tonight and has taken some recovery food so he is at least getting some nutrients hopefully

Hope he is doing better today

well some progress has been made this morning :) jules has had shredded carrot and about 1/4 of a grape and he is still bright and wanting to eat so fingers and paws crossed here too - his tooth is growing back slowly but going to get him checked at the V.E.T tomorrow just in case there is anything else x

Sorry to hear he's off his food. Have you tried DAktarin oral gel to soothe his sore mouth?

For appetite I use Metatone tonic, meant for people. From tesco or chemist, 0.5 ml, it does seem to perk them up a bit

Are you grating his veg?

Thanks Sophie

He is eating and wanting to eat which is a good sign but still so hard to watch him struggle - we have all the time in the world to feed him we dont mind how long it takes as long as he eats soemthing :)

yeh grating as much veg as possible we even blitzed some in the food processir the other day but nto sure how much he touched as was our sister that came in to feed him yesterday x

I was just about to suggest the Daktarin Oral Gel, as Sophie has done. Worth a shot Karen, would help to soothe the mouth a bit and deal with any oral fungal issues going on, which can lead to the same/similar symptoms as dental issues. Dosage is 0.5ml 3x daily, reduced to twice daily on week two, once daily on week three. If there is improvement while he is on the Daktarin, still follow the full routine through; I made the mistake of stopping Elijah's treatment on this after less than one week as he responded so quickly to it, his symptoms came back much worse a few weeks later. mallethead

Jules was seen at the V.E.T this morning as we are overprotective piggy parents :) - Jules was honoured today and was seen by two vets who were both confident that the tooth would grow back. They gaev him an injection of Metacam which he was not impressed at pow-pow and we have more recovery food to syringe into him which OH says he seems to be taken more than he did the other day which is a good sign I hope

The vet said that if we were still worried about him in a couple of days to take him in and they would put him on a drip to try and get some food and things into him but he is wanting to eat and he is still active so hopefully once his tooth grows back he will be as right as rain.

Has anyone else had to put their piggies on a drip to try and get them perked up a bit?

Thanks
