Julie (Boureki) Update - AKA I Hate The NHS

I just typed out a 20 minute post and have lost it all 'cos I got "logged out"...

The gist of it was that I certainly wouldn't tarnish all nurses with the same brush, but from what I've read above, and my own observations, they seem particularly bad in Kent.

I do wonder if they get de-sensitised to patients and their families, feelings after a while, at this point in time I have a very low opinion of all NHS staff in general (with the possible exception of the volunteers at the shop at Medway Hospital, lol)

I forgot to add, my opinion of Medway Hospital has however gone up slightly since Julie's two day stay at Dartford, and I never thought I'd be saying that!

Marty, I am just speechless about the situation. Anything IV or linked to something IV has to be sterile, without exception, they could cause nasty infections, they really need to be told.

Once again, I'm sending my love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you log in again and then use the left arrow on the toolbar to go back a few pages. ( it will look like you're skipping back to the log on screen again ) you're text will eventually apprear again and you can just send your message through without having to type it again.

Some really don't seem to have any respect. Last year my Nan was in hospital because a doctor gave her 500ml antibiotics and her system couldn't cope with it. She eventually went to hospital and did get better but in the night the nurses would take her pillows from her. She needed to be propped up because she has a hytus hernia (not sure I spelt that right) so she got no rest. It just seems in Liverpool NHS there is a lack of support for the elderley.

When my Grandad Joe died we challenged them about taking his brain, there reply...well he was going to die anyway! I've no respect for the system but that doesn't mean there aren't good nurses and doctors. I saw a lovely doctor over Caitlin's development yesterday. :)

How is Julie today? I hope you have both got somewhere with the consultant and got some answers. If not I would maybe go and see her GP and ask for him to speak to the consultant to speed up getting her the treatment she needs. It's sounds so unacceptable for the length of time she has been waiting for in obvious pain and discomfort :( If you feel you need some support maybe contact your local citizen advocacy who may get you an advocate to speak on your behalf and these people might have some more oomph and then the NHS will know you are not going to be walked all over :( Sending big huge hugs to Julie xxxxx

We've had no luck getting hold of the consultant, he apparently was talking to the surgeon who failed her on Wednesday, about how best to proceed but has ignored all of our attempts to contact him, it's like they're trying to decide Julie's "fate" without even discussing it with her! grrrr

Julie is home (but too upset and angry to post at the moment) and is going to see our GP today, hopefully she may be able to help her. She's also got to get her wound re-dressed 'cos they made such a bad job of trying to do it yesterday before she came home. I'll keep you all posted.

Glad Julie is home, send her our love. I've been to Dartford hospital myself so my sympathies are with you there! (Used to live in Bexleyheath).

I really hope someone gives you the information you need and they finally sort out the problem.

Sophie

Huge hugs to Julie and hoping you get something sorted today x

Hope Julie got on well at her GP.
Keep pushing for answers and good treatment, don't give up!
I found out last night that I had received a wrong diagnosis a year ago by my GP, but I won't go into details on your thread. My sympathy goes to Julie.

I would suggest a strongly worded letter be sent to the hospital Board and tell them exactly what has gone on and that you want a full explanation to your problems...it worked a treat here in suffolk at the WSH Bury St Edmunds after we were kept waiting twice for over an hour for an appointment.

I would also contact if needs be your local MP and ask them to look into the issue.

I had my Gall Bladder removed along with a few other things recently and can say that my consultant was brilliant,my op was cancelled once but i got a full explanation from him etc,etc...shame you are in Kent because he's a really good bloke and a damn fine surgeon.

:o can i just say I'm shocked and upset to read your story but as i work for the NHS i can assure you that cases like this are few and far between, i would suggest that you talk to PALS (every hospital has this system) and they will be able to put you in touch with who you complain to and how to go about it etc. hugs to your OH

I'm sorry to hear about the problems Julie is having with the hospital. Hope she is doing better now. Hugs to Julie.x

What JHP has suggested sounds like a great idea.

We wish you well from up in the Pool! It's not easy going through any stress with illness, let alone incompitence!

Anyhow, there is enough stress going through your's and Julies minds right now, just try to relax and work it through the system's advised and as I said don't stress as you don't want to fall ill yourself Marty! :)p

Our love to you both :)p

Just dropping in to see how you guys are? I hope you managed to have a comfortable weekend Julie, fingers crossed you can get some answers this week and that steps can be put in place to get your problems sorted out. Sending lots of hugs and wheeks from the gang (and of course us!).xx

My thoughts are with you both, what a truly harrowing time you must be going through and through no fault of your own x

Hi everyone, I'm back and I've calmed down now! Most of it was the shock that their confident assurances didn't work (although I appreciate they are not God!) and combined with the anaesthetic, I just couldn't cope with it at all. I pushed on with my surgeon who to be fair called me back a couple of days ago and has arranged a meeting with me later this week and the other treatment they wanted to try is happening on Friday but let's just sayI ain't holding my breath this time!

We definately don't tar the whole of the NHS with the same brush - some of the nurses and "behind the scenes" teams like the anaesthetists I have seen have been truly wonderful, as have some of the doctors, and my GP is just brilliant, so I can't knock the whole system, just certain parts of it! I do however think some things are unacceptable - such as having to change into a hospital gown in an admin office and having to take my underwear and trackie bottoms off in the hallway to the operating theater because even after keeping me waiting for the best part of 6 hours they still didn't have a bed for an organised proceedure being one of them... but anyhoo...

But thank you all so much for your lovely messages of support, and Sandra, your card came this morning which was very thoughtful, thank you and your family too :)

Julie, it is so good to have you back. I am so sorry to read what you have been through, it must have been so horrible. You must have felt so let down when you left all your trust in the "system".

I wish you a very speedy recovery and hope to see you back on here more often very soon.

Bev xx

Thanks Bev - yep, I will be a bit on and off the forum as I still have loads of medical appts to do with all this stuff here and there and my mum is coming all the way from Cornwall to be with me as Marty is off abroad on business and I can't even do simple things like the ironing or hoovering with the equipment still attached to me!

I'm just off to read your thread actually...

I am glad that you are back home, and hope that you will feel better soon and can have your problem - finally! - sorted!

Best wishes
Wiebke

Welcome back Jules, aren't mums great? even when we grow up they still see you as their little baba and want to take care of us lol :)p

HI Julie :)p
so pleased to see you back! I can imagine how upset you were and understandably so but look forward, not back. It sounds like someting will be sorted soon.

Keep your chin up sweetie!

Good to see you back Julie and I'm glad the card arrived, we saw it in a local shop and thought of you:) hope it raised a smile!

Good to hear your mum is coming up to help bless her, but if you get stuck, need any running around, help with the pigs etc., etc., etc., you know where I am don't be afraid to ask!

I work in the NHS and I'm not a cowboy! LOL
I am really sorry that you were treated badly. Hopefully you'll get the better treatment you deserve very soon xx
