So I’ve been wanting to convert a shed into a piggy palace for my gang for years and years and this year I set the wheels in motion in the beginning of January. Recruited my carpenter friend (we met when I fostered his guinea pigs for him when he was no longer able to keep them) to create my vision inside and the builder son of one of my clients. I ordered everything in for the base, anticipating the shed would be going up a couple days after.

It’s all been ground to a halt for weeks now. The base is part done (the builder threw his back out, can’t be helped, and as someone who also suffers from back pain I am entirely sympathetic) but since then the awful weather has prevented him from finishing it (he works as well so appreciative that my little project has to come second but the garden looks awful at the moment!)
The brand new, built from scratch shed is in pieces round the side of the house, getting battered by the storms and constant rain. I could be painting it but obviously can’t even do that right now!
It’s so frustrating as we should have been well onto insulating and planning the layout of the inside now.

Sorry I just needed to rant. 😆

On the plus side I’ve been picking up bits for it and bought this planter I grew herbs in and got talking to the guy who made it - he’s offered to build me a purpose built aviary-style walk in run to add to the shed for the piglets. I’m going to set the planter up quite high in there so the pigs can’t feast on it so easily as Nova is doing here 😂

Fingers crossed the ball starts rolling again soon. But at least I can put any updates on this thread now!

Don't worry, it will get there eventually. I had the same with my piggie shed..recruited a friend who also had a proper job & everything else came first so I just had to wait.....I'm terribly impatient though especially when you want to get on with the inside bit but it will come.... weather is rubbish to be shed building anyway. Is your wood already treated? Just a thought but my shed backs onto a fence & we gave it an extra coat of wood preserve on the back as it was unlikely to see the light of day again- can you do that to your panels while you wait?

After an incredibly stressful week (including having the RSPCA called on us in regards to our dog 😓), I’m stunned to say that the shed is officially standing!

A bit more to finish on the outside but it’s up, it’s solid and it’s no longer in pieces round the side of the house :yahoo:

You've done very well getting it finished in this weather 👍 looks fab

Fabulous- how big is it?
Some of the little tips I’ve learnt is :-

Good ventilation for the summer, fly guard material, good flooring and insulation. Electric points (yes) multiple! Use of storage for fleeces etc. A canopy to shade the entrance in high sun.
Luckily I had the foresight to do many of these but not all! The little amendments are continuous. 🙄🤣

Thanks! It’s 8x6, wish I’d gone bigger now it’s up but never mind.
I’ll be having another mesh door added and the window will be replaced with an opening one. My carpenter friend who is a guinea pig lover will be coming to do most of the inside so I won’t be able to fluff that up. 😂
Hadn’t considered a canopy so will add that to the list!

Oh I know...my lawn is like a slip and slide. I installed stepping stones last week but fat load of good they have done, they are waterlogged too so the choice is get wet or get muddy 😂

Oh no! I was thinking of getting stepping stones as well! 😂
