ive had my guinea pigs for a week tomorrow, and i just wandered is it normal to have to clean them everyday? I DONT MIND, I ACTUALLY ENJOY DOING IT AND LOOKING AT ALL THE FESH SAWDUST LAYED OUT AND EVERYTHING NEAT(SAD I KNOW HEHE){:| BUT WHEN I GET UP IN THE MORNING IT LOOKS LIKE ITS BEEN RANSACKED BY ABOUT TEN PIGGIES!THERES POO EVERYWHERE, IN THERE FOOD BOWL, IN ALL THERE BEDDING AND ALL IN THE OTHER SECTION, SO THEY MUST BE LYING ON IT OF A NIGHT, IS THIS CUZ THERE YOUNG,AND WILL THEY START TO DO IT UP ONE CORNER EVENTUALLY?OR IS IT JUST A MAN THING?GEMX:(|)

it really depends on the piggie. gilbert has his main areas where he goes DOO DOO. thats where 80% of it is.......the other 20% is ....who knows where?rolleyes

Oh great! Ive got two other messy boys now!I'm outnumbered. Ive got two boys under five, and my partner whos like a child aswell, and now these two monkeys!i must have done something in a previous life!hehe.gemx

lol. dont blame yourself. guinea pigs are guinea pigs:)):)):))

My two boys hold it in I'm sure while I clean out the piggery. They could be either outside or in my little 'holding/hospital' cage and not a poo in sight. Put them back and within 10 secs they go for it like a gattling gun. It never fails to amuse me.

LOL. yesterday morning, my mom said she witnessed gilbert doing his business. she saw his butt for the first time yesterday and she told me she saw something come out...rolleyesrolleyes it made me laugh:(|)

My girls just do their business everywhere - in their bed, their food bowls, their favourite lying places etc. They don't mind.

you, mine are pretty much anywhere they want...I have noticed some is thicker in piles around the edges...i think its funny to see some rolling down their ramp....they must do it while running about...lol

Wood shavings and/or sawdust are not suitable for guinea pig bedding.
Problems include eye damageand respiratory problems from fumes caused by urine interacting with the wood resins.
Imagine you had short legs!!!
Keep them for horses etc

Yep, totally normal! Some of my boys are polite enough to use just the one corner but my girls (true to form haha) are messy devils :))

Little Frank likes to do his business behind the pigloo in the corner of the cage, where you can't see him - or so he thinks. Finlay isn't so bothered so long as it's in a house... but in a neat pile!

Neither of them has ever peed on us but they pee as a matter of course as soon as they touch foot in the cage! in the same areas as poo, respectively. You can clearly see the areas when you change the bedding on the newspaper.

We have started removing poo once a day but come morning and it's like they've had a party with all the piggies in the neighbourhood. It's not humanly possible for 2 pigs to poo that much!:)) Having said that, with the amount they eat... maybe?

Mine poop alot too but I change them every other day (total cage cleanout) - and I have girls. They also poop in every bowl too. I love the feeling of a lovely clean guinea home too.

Consider a bedding like Megazorb - you can order it online - delivered the next day and not too expensive. It wont look any cleaner but is better for them.

How you all getting along?

Piggys are the `original house slobs`. I mean this in the nicest way. They poo in their bowls. Steal food from their best friend and run off with it. Tear up paper in the floor and generally make a huge mess in their home.

We still love `m` for all that.

Anders.

most piggies are like this,i have 3 pairs of boys who poo in the water and pellet bowls/poo somehow on the sides of the corflute:)>>>,but i have Cooper-Beau & Windsor-Duke who go to the toilet in a litter tray about 98% of the time and there cage is rather clean so i guess it depends on the individual piggy,i also have some who refuse to use a litter, strange little critters:))

agreed,
from my own experience i have learnt different beddings suit different piggies,i find newspaper and hay great for 2 of my guys and the other 6 are all bedded on newspaper then a layered towel and then fleece or extra thick fleece and newspaper does the job too,i have heard many great things about megazorb so maybe try this too xxxxxxxxxxxx

My two girls are little 'slobettes' they poop in everything! I clean them out first thing each morning i use newspaper and hay. What i do tho is have multiple layers of newspaper in their particularly messy areas (you'll get used to where they poop and wee the most after a few weeks) so that the top layer is usually the only one wet. I also remove any wet hay as this makes it smelly and i don't want them to get wet butts. I then clean out again at night time before they get their main meal :)

Yep my boys are messy too!
They used to poop mostly in the furthest corner from the front of the cage (nice and awkward for cleaning out :))mallethead ) but since I changed to fleecy tents in the sleeping areas instead of pigloos they have switched to pooping 80% under the ramp - they respect the fleecey tents! :))
I am also convinced they save their little deposits until we put them into their lovely clean cage! When Roufus and Rocky are in their run the first thing they do is wee big puddles all inside their long tunnel! Most times I have to soak it in the bath afterwards :)):)) haha, the things we do huh?!
xxxxx
