I'm hoping everyone will be nice to them. I spotted an advert saying they were looking for 2 girls as their 9 year old son has a boy and wanted to try breeding . I didnt want to sound preachy and put them off joining here so just said please come to this site as there are certain dangers with breeding and you need lots of info first.

I just hope we can all educate this person about not breeding without being too forceful and scaring them off! (bit worried.....)

i browse preloved, pets4homes and freeads to direct people to the forum. Of about 60 messages sent i think about 5 people have come on here, couple to rehome piggies and couple to find new piggies and one for info cos getting rid of piggies cos didnt think they were happy. I know it isnt many but one would be worth it.I'm sure everyone will be nice. I thought about having a litter of piggies until i researched the mortality rate and realised how many were in need of a home. Was going to keep them all myself anyway but have now rescued instead.

Well its all well and good to let him have a litter but what's he going to do with the male and female once they have had this litter ?!
(Rescue?!)

A lot of people still think that breeding animals is educational for children. My father bred Rex rabbits in the late 1970s because he thought it would be nice for me to see an animal having a litter etc. It was a common attitude then. The attitude of thoughtless breeding still persists in lots of sectors of society though. And most people don't realise the crisis in over breeding and neglected pets even exists.

I think i may have started something ooppss. I will try to refrain from preloved interventions from now on

You have done the right thing by directing them to the forum, if they indeed do come to the forum, there's a chance that some good might be done, but unfortunately as @Goth Mummy says there are still a lot of thoughtless attitudes with regard to breeding..

I came on here tonight to do two posts and one was about this add, it really is a worry I do hope they join.

I can only reiterate what everyone else has said , at 9 I was still playing with dolls that could be discarded when I got bored, - lets hope this 9 year old is sensible and unlike my kids at that age , doesn't expect mum & dad to look at the piggys when they find a new hobby- as said too many rescue piggys already without adding to the total

i have a very responsible 12 year old (sometimes) and still find myself doing most of the animal care
