Junior Guinea Pig
Sorry, just need to download.
I have just buried our oldest guinea pig, Patches, who died last night aged 5 and a half.
She had been a bit slower than normal over the last few days but still eating, chatting and generally bossing everyone around. Then when I went to get the piggies in yesterday afternoon, she felt as though she had lost a lot of weight in just a few hours, was a bit floppy and most importantly, she didn't want to eat.
She didn't seem distressed although her heart was beating very fast and hard. Her breathing was Ok. She just had no energy. We tried taking her out for a cuddle but she made it plain that she wanted to be in her cage.
I had a really hard conversation with the kids and between us we decided not to take her to the vet - she hates going there and would get stressed out and unhappy. I also thought it highly likely that they would recommend having her put down and I would rather she went quietly at home provided she wasn't in pain.
So we made her as comfortable as we could. We made her a hay nest, left her a few choice titbits and made sure she could reach her water. We kept monitoring her and a little while later she went into a coma and then died.
Desperately missing her -a little pig with a huge personality.
