just came back from the vet, she was very nice and she said it is properly an early sign of mites so she dripped them with mite stuff and i showed her the ivermec and she said in a fortnight give them that and for the next 3 months, it all cam up to £30.32. she also said otherwise they were very healthy. They were very happy to be home.

here is the thread about why i took them

Glad you got them sorted. Mites treatment needs to be repeated regularly in order to kill the eggs in the skin.

Depending on the severity there are two ways forwards when mites are diagnosed
a) ivermectin (or doramectin) injections every 10-14 days....3 in total....from the vet (with fees....eeek)
b) the ivermectin drop treatment with Xeno 450 - bearing in mind this is normally a preventative rather than a curative treatment

As the vet is happy for you to "spot on" with Xeno I can only assume the infection is not severe....and that your piggies will have a full recovery.

You need to be aware however that ANY treatment needs to be combined with exceptional hygiene regards being careful not to cross-infect piggies and cleaning all cages/bowls etc with the appopriate disinfectant to prevent re-infection. Also watch out for the hay you source.....if you can bag small amounts in the freezer and freeze-thaw them twice before giving them to pigies this will help kill any mites and minimise the chances of re-infection.

If the Xeno 450 doesn;t work after 2 weeks....you will need to make preprations for 3 injections 10-14 days apart and associated financial and husbandry implications.

Don;t get me wrong...and I'm not trying to scare you..Many piggies have been sorted with Xeno450.......and I hope that is the case with yours. However you do need to be aware as a piggie slave that the treatment you are using is limited in its efficacy so please be observant and check it REALLY HAS knocked the mites out...and also please pay attention to hygiene to prevent re-infection...otherwise you will unfortunately end up where you started and have to prepare yourself for some additional expenditure

Keeping my fingers crossed for you...PM me if you want to discuss hygiene measures etc...happy to chat.
