Hi as these are my first piggies (just managed to catch one of our babies mid “mad dash” in this pic) I wanted to check this set up was ok.. the hay is usually in more of a bunched up pile at one end but the piggies keep dashing through it and spending it around! Lol .. we did have another tube in but despite it being a 2x4 cage it seemed a little crammed with 3 tubes.. we also tried another Hidey in the corner where the purple corner tray is but they hardly used it minute I put the purple thing back in corner with the hay in it and the little forest thing hanging down they jumped straight back in.. just worried if they are bit bored as Opal keeps chewing Greg wooden bridge and now Pearl is copying her.. is this bored behaviour or normal piggie behaviour please & is this set up ok? They are going in hideys when awake and always sleep in the pile of hay x thank you for help x

Guinea pigs discover the world by nibbling and gnawing; that is perfectly normal behaviour.

Cage thrashing is a favourite piggy sport!
I have a couple of piggies that start dragging any hay round the cage as soon as I refilly their tray! After 5 years of ongoing war, I have finally given in and put that trio into a traditional cage with hay bedding and a hut on a mezzanine... :mal:

If you notice that the cave is becoming an object of status and is causing problems, either remove it or put both caves in next to each other and remove the log tunnel. ;)

Thank you for answering my questions yet again.. 😊 When you say Refill their tray do you mean the hay is in a tray rather than just all free on the fleece ? Is this to make it easier to clean? Can they still play/sleep etc in it as that seems to be my two favourite thing to do at the moment which is why I just left it all loose but def sticks to fleece a lot and chsnge it every day so waste a lot too.. and can I just confirm please (sorry I feel like right pain!) when you say if there cave becomes a status thing do you mean the fleece house? Are they likely to fight over it then? Thanks again x

My piggies are outside hutch piggies and their bedding is MOUNTAINS of hay and they also have a hay tray to play in as they just love it! It seems to have a different appeal to just hay in the hutch. I don't know why but then I'm not a piggie!

Lol sound like very happy piggies, mind me asking what do you use under their hay ? Xx

I use newspapers to line the hutch with and pop the hay on the top. When I go away I put a thick Aubiose on top of the newspaper and under the hay that way my pet sitters don't need to clean them out if they don't want to (they don't want to!).

Looking great, lucky piggies... ours are hay spreaders and take it everywhere

You can put a big plastic tray in and put the hay on that, in theory it keeps it down one end :))

What Wiebke means is if you see an object that becomes coveted by the pigs (they both want to use it) you can get another... We had to do this with a sqube they both wanted to be in... put two in and they where happy.... Piggies tend to want to go where the other one is :))

Oh I see what you mean right I better order another fleece house in case then, thank you
I’ve seen a lot of trays with hay in but as my two seem to spend most of time hiding, sleeping and running through all the hay I wasn’t sure that one tray with hay in would be enough space of hay for them both to run through whilst they are still so skittish & young if that makes sense, they literally spend all their time in there I’m hoping it’s just because they are babies & new to all this and not I’m doing anything wrong xx

You're not doing anything wrong. Babies are fun to watch as they are so skittish and when then get used to their surroundings they zoomie and popcorn everywhere!

You are doing nothing wrong!
