My son recently read an article stating that the average adult weight of a guinea pig sow is 600-900 g. According to this, mine must be HUGE! Linney is about 1200 g and Sundae is about 1050 g. Even our late pig Frenzy, who I always thought looked tiny, was about 965 g. I realize there's probably a wide range of normal, and I'm not concerned about them as they eat healthy, are active, and the vet considers them to be in good health. I'm just curious how big the other sows out there are!

Carmina, nearly 6 (she will be on March 9th and there will be treats!) is 1.05kg. She is healthy in herself, was 1.3 kg when younger and has gradually lost weight over the last two years.

Columbine, nearly 5 is 1.1kg. She has never been a fat piggy as she is always on the move and very very curious about everything. She is very fit, very healthy and full of energy.

Carmeline, just over 3 is 1.12kg, lost a bit after her op but is gradually putting it back on.

Carmilla, just under 3 is 1.63kg and is a big girl. She is visibly longer in the back than the others, healthy and similar in fat coverge, but just a big chunky heavy lovely girl.

All of my sows except Coumbine have reduced in weight with age, it is a gradual thing. Columbine just never carried any fat to start with!:)

Pippa is just over two and is my dominant girl. She weighs 1.244 kg

Willow is also just over two and weighs 1.101 kg

Pixel is about 15 months old and weighs 1.181

Just weighed mine and;

Gizmo (3+ years*) is 1.1kg
Pip (15 months) is 1.1.kg
Cherub (5 months) is 800g
Angel (2.5 months) is 500g

So you can kind of see how they put it on...

Michael, my neutered boar is also 1.1kg, must be the weight they stablise to in my caviary ;)

*I don't know exactly how old Giz is as her previous owners were a bit vague

My adult sows are aged between 20 months - 3.5yrs. Their weights range between 913g - 1326g.

Mine were weighed a fortnight ago-
Midge (3yrs) 1360g
Panda ((3yrs) 1548g
Maisie (1yr) 1306g
Paprika (1yr) 1037g
Rosie (new addition 12 wks) 640g

Lexi was roughly 1100g last time i weighed her and Freya was about 1000g. They are both coming up to a year and a half.

I have no idea what mine way (not that I don't pay attention to their healthy, I just don't weight them usually), but they're quite small pigs really. They're still young though, so might get bigger (as in fatter probably!) :)

Last lot of weights for our lot :))

21/02/2011 Maurice (pensioner at nearly 5 years 1161g
Paloma (approx 2-3years) 1306g
Rikki (approx 2-3 years) 1285g
Gizmo (the toddler of the group at 4 months) 811g

hope this helps x

I don't think yours are huge at all!

Goggle weighted 1.2kg for a long time, but not she is ill she is in the range you mentioned, and that is not good for her. :(

Porcella is usually around 0.7-0.75kg.

maisie was 1155g at her last weigh in.

eta: she's coming up to approx 3 years old.
