There is a fundraising thread to guess the sexes and combined birthweight of the minipigs Competition - Baby Boom Fundraiser For Potteries Gpr.

Just for fun it would be good to have a thread with suggestions for names for baby sows and boars born over Remembrance Weekend. Feel free to post suggestions below.

Here's our suggestions, all names of animals that served in the World Wars:

Simon - cat mascot of HMS Amethyst (WW2), a cat awarded a posthumous PDSA Dickin Medal for protecting the crew from rats when they were held captive for 101 days.

Upstart - police patrol horse (WW2), was within 75 yards of a bomb when it exploded in Bethnal Green and despite being injured remained quietly on duty and protected his rider.

Bill - goat mascot of canadian soldiers (WW1), saved 3 lives by headbutting men out of the path of an exploding shell, honoured with the General Service Medal

Siwash - duck marine mascot of The First Battalion of the Tenth Marine Regiment (WW2), engaged an attacking Japanese rooster in wing to wing combat.

Reckless (formerly Ah Chim Hai meaning Flame in the Morning) - US marine horse (WW2), on her most notable day, she made 51 trips (most unaccompanied) taking ammunition to marines and getting wounded soldiers out. Reckless was wounded in enemy fire twice but kept going. She was awarded a slew of medal.

Wojtek - Polish artillery bear, 22nd Transport Company, Artillery Division (WW2), loaded 100 pound boxes of artillery shells into trucks all day, every day until the battle was over.

Stubby - dog mascot of 102nd Infantry of Massachusetts (WW1), he kept watch and alerted troops to enemies approaching. He was wounded by a hand grenade, gassed several times, and once found a German spy and held him by the seat of the pants until American troops could complete the capture.

Tirpitz - pig mascot of SMS Dresden warship and then HMS Glasgow (WW1) escaped the sinking SMS Dresden after HMS Glasgow sunk it, and got aboard. He raised £1785 for British Red Cross.

Wow, these are awesome recommendations.

Poppy - for rememberance

Maple - I remember in French (which is often spoken in Belgium) is me rappeler - but when said quickly is kind of like “ m’apple”

Wilfred or Owen - poet

David or Lloyd or George - for David Lloyd George , pm during ww1

Siegfried Sassoon is another of the great war poets. He is one of the few that survived.
Julian Grenfell (after whom Grenfell Tower was named) is another WWI poet who was mortally wounded in battle.

If you want battle names: Marne, Somme, Gallipoli, Jutland, Ypres and Verdun

I like Poppy and Rosemary but otherwise i'm not creative enough for more names
