I have reported it to ebay, just waiting to see if it gets removed. Sent the seller a email too expressing my concern. I just dont understand how people can just sell their animals like that to someone they dont know from adam who could want the animal for any reason.. Its disgusting.

Thanks Beth. The thing is though, i bet theres so many that slip through the net and end up being sold. The idea of that is horrible. Ebay obviously arent very good at looking what people sell or they would have spotted it themselves without us pointing it out.

Just had a reply from the seller:

'If I didnt care I would have left it in the field or something but I am offering it on the ebay for someone unlike you to give him a new home for a small price as we cannt anymore because of the change of our lifestyle. But oh no there are people like you who has nothing better to do but pass a ...... judgement on people who you dont even know or know the situation.'

The fact that they even considered or mentioned abandoning the animal tells me what sort of person they are. Absolutely disgraceful.

well its been removed. lets hope the person who owns the poor thing, doesn't let it go and takes it to a nearby rescue. they are usually banned from ebay after listing animals.

If you still have their email why not get back in contact to say if they posted on here they might find someone to take care of the piggy.

I did contact them again suggesting that if they looked for a rescue in their area then the piggy would be guaranteed a new good home, but they havent replied..

I hope someone directed them to thier nearest rescue or here in a polite manner before it was pulled. Whenever I see ads like that I email and offer help instead of going off on one at them. We do not know why they need to rehome do not judge people circumstances can arise for anyone of us.

Yep Michelle that is what I do I try and direct to the nearest rescue or here if that isn't possible. People's circumstances change. We know animals shouldn't be on Ebay but even those of us who love our animals may find themselves in a predicamint which means they have to rehome.

So now you have got it in for anyone who mentions the action that someone else ('if they didn't care') might do. If just mentioning something makes you judge what sort of person someone is, I dread to think how rude your email was.
No wonder she mouthed off at you - quite frankly I would have done exactly the same. A polite email advising her about rescues etc would have actually helped the cause.

Goodness me, it was a polite email, just saying how irresponsible it was to even consider selling an animal on ebay. Also, if you had read the thread you would see that i advised them to take the piggy to a rescue instead. I see nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Its people like that who buy pets on a whim and when things get a bit difficult disregard of them whilly nilly. I dont condone that, whether you do or not.

Thanks Claire. Even when you try to help, people nag you about it. You cant win.

juniper i have to say do you think selling an animal on a auction site is responsible i woudnt have have a go its very mean and unpolite
she probaly did send a nice email to them but what they sent is dreadfull dont have ago cuz what bubble and squeak did was very nice and helpfull for that guinea pig.
:)
Welldone bubble and squeak

No, of course it isn’t appropriate to sell a live animal on an auction site; it was done, presumably, through ignorance both of Ebay’s rules and animal welfare.

What I was questioning is that anyone should be judged because they mentioned that someone else might have abandoned the animal given the same circumstances.
If I say “if I didn’t care about my animals I wouldn’t feed them properly†…does that mean that I am an awful person? I do care about them so they do get fed.

I still think that it is very important to be polite, constructive and non-judgemental when approaching people about their unwanted pets.

Politeness is the key when dealing with a volitle situation like this. Nine times out of ten people will come back and give abuse.

I just say 'hey, saw your guinea pig for sale sadly I'm too far away to help but you may have more luck in your pop along to www.theguineapigforum.co.uk as there maybe someone in your area who can help you out. Good luck! :)' I tend to get a good response from that.

That is a great Louise, but well done Bubble and Squeak..........I sent message to ebay toooo for you

glad it has been removed

Julie
xx

Totally agree Julie. What B&S done was fab, not her fault the seller didn't listen at all. :)

I did try to message too but it had already been removed when I read it last night. :(

Thanks to those of you who did support me in this. I repeat i was polite but from the tone of the sellers reply, its clear that they were mainly concerned with getting rid of the animal and making a bit of money too.

Hope it doesn't put you off trying in future for every bad one there is nine good ones. :-) x
