It is definitely a fungal issue as I can see white stuff around the scratch with no fur! This is the same piggy with a fungal show on her ear.

And the baby of the herd as some white around her genitals. Both piggies are booked in the vets for Sunday as that was the only appointment I could get

Any suggestions?

Please do not treat on spec as this is making diagnosis very difficult for your vet. When you treat, you will ideally need to address all your piggies within contact of each other to prevent the others from coming down with it, too. A round or two of bathing all companion piggies with an antifungal shampoo should do the trick. I am ever so sorry that you have to wait for nearly a week. Is there another vet that can see your piggies sooner?

The vet I see is a piggy savvy vet.

I could try and book her in with another vet but the others are not piggy savvy. I have 8 in the herd...the newest has been with us for 3.5 weeks and only showed potential fungal issues yesterday!

I don't mind bathing all 8 piggies with an anti fungal shampoo. I have enough towels...and I don't mind throwing out all of the wooden toys.

What has caused it?

I am so sick of fungal issues!

I've had once carried ringworm into my herd by spores sitting in a newly adopted unaffected piggy's coat that had passed its quarantine in a group where others were affected by it. That is where he recommendation to bathe all piggies at the end of the acute phase come from - it cuts out this angle. it just needs one spore falling off or being caught by another piggy at some point...

One spore. That's almost unbelievable.

Does it look like ringworm to you? Snowy had it once but there was no pink skin around the hair loss area. That's why I'm thinking its a less virulent fungal issue.

I will see if I can get another appointment with another vet tomorrow. I will ask for an anti fungal shampoo so I can treat all 8 piggies.

Are there any preventative measures against fungal issues and piggies? My lot seem to be getting it every 6 months

Fungal is often down to sheer bad luck, worth treating all if it proves to be ringworm as it is very transmitable, I would advise getting some disposable gloves for yourself when handling. Let us know how vet goes. Hoping it a less potent fungal infection that you can get sorted soon. X

Got gloves. Got F10 disinfectant. Got F10 ointment. Got lots of towels.

My OH is out of work and is currently unwell himself. I have a stressful job and now have a fungal outbreak on top of everything.

I'm sorry ,it is alot of work when you have a number of piggies as all need to be bathed .ive had a group of piggies with one piggie showing symptoms.i bathed them all 3 times aweek apart with an antifungal shampoo, vet prescribed medication to dip my piggies in.fortunatley it did not spread to the others in the group.and has not returned.you are doing all you can.i did use vet bed at this time and washed it at 90 degrees ,changed daily.used plastic hides as easy to clean with F10.hope it fades out quickly.

I had an appointment with another vet, one just down the road from where I live. Samples were taken, of the scaly skin and hair, and the vet got in to contact with the exotic specialist working in Cardiff.little Smudge simply melted hearts. She was lovely, even licking me whilst being examined.

The vet practise does not treat animals without seeing them, so tomorrow I am taking in all 8 for weighing. I'm also having 3 weeks treatment of Intrafungol and after throwing out all wooden toys and hidies from the cage I am using F10 on everything.

Here we go again.

I'm rather sick of fungal issues. This is the third time in under a year.

Would it hurt to use an anti fungal shampoo? The vets won't prescribe any, but couldn't I get one from on line? Wouldn't that give relief?

Cant answer your question but wanted to send sympathetic vibes. I once had a syrian hamster that the vet reakoned had mites. Cleaning his cage and giving him mite tratment was pretty time consuming but 8 guinea pigs ...
