Update sort of: Those piggies from yesterday were adopted apparently...That depressed me. My mom only got me one and said we can go back and get another tomorrow or next week so there's that.

So far so good. I guess she's terrified because I put some hay, carrots and cucumbers in her cage and water. I saw her eat one string of hay. But she's like pooped 5 times? Is that normal or is she scared?

I haven't tried to pet her or anything so I give her space and to be honest every time she runs I'm scared for my life LOL. Funny right? I'm more likely to hurt than she is me and I'm shook.

Any tips for my new guinea pig? Her name is Momo. I looked up how to care for them but I could really use some advise for these next few days or weeks please :)

Also she stinks? Like some kind of barn or something? Like animal poop? I know it's normal for them to have a little smell cause they're rodents but it's not pleasant one if you want to hold her or get close to her. I won't bathe her right away cause she has to settle in but is Dawn okay? Any Guinea Pig shampoos and stuff. Tips for bathing.

THANKS :)

Hi!

I am sorry that the piggies you wanted had already found new homes. Is the new piggy from the shelter, too?

Here are our settling in tips. Please wait for 2-3 weeks before getting a companion (quarantine). Take the time to read through these guides; they tell you how not to appear as a predator and how to use guinea pig behaviour to make friends with Momo. It is going to be a slow process.
For the time being, place a blanket or beach towel over the cage, put hay, a bit of veg (but not too much in case she's not used to it) and some pellets close by her hidey and leave her to it.

Wee Companions in San Diego sell a special guinea pig shampoo via their rescue shop; you should be able to order it online. It has the advantage that the ph is adapted to piggies. In the meantime, you can give your girl a gentle wash with hand warm water to get off the worst of the stink; don't give her a full bath. Follow the tips in our bathing guide to prevent her from hurting herself badly through blind jumping. Sows shouldn't smell much.
