'Just Grass'

Just wondered how often guinea pigs should have 'Just Grass'? (only recently started using it)

I would only give it as a treat once or twice a week! x

I use Readigrass which is much the same, and I feed it once every three days, just a small handful per two pigs with their regular hay

The main thing is to introduce it slowly as it will make them poop more at first!

its ok to fed every day, mine have a huge handfull every day along with hay, got more goodness in it then hay.

Hi, I am assuming Just Grass is refering to the backyard lawn, and not some treat, lol if so everyday, hay is dried grass, so if you have plently of back lawn available you could use that instead of hay!

I would say that is fine, again it is dried grass, the same as hay

It's not good to feed everyday...
The high calcium content can cause bladder stones etc...
Like above... I feed every 3-4 days and only a small amount...

"ReadiGrass has the correct calcium : phosphorus ratio of 2:1" for a guinea pig the ideal is 1.3:1 so its high in calcium in that sense.

Basil is 3.1:1, cabages and similar greens and herbs are around 2.8:1 and higher. Spinach is 2.0:1.

So while the grass is "high" in calcium its no higher and in fact can be lower than other foods regularly fed to piggies.

I feed them a big handful once a week instead of a pile of veggies, they go insane for it :-) I also give it to my rabbit as she will not touch hay.

I usually sprinkle a bit ( Readigrass) in their haylofts and mix it all up with the "hay salad" ( I change the hay daily and usually put a few different types in ) so they have to forage for it and can't gorge on a load of it all at once.
