Sorry if this is in the wrong place, please mods move it to the right place..
i have a girl piggie who is nearly 5 and she is fine.. weighs just under 3 pounds in weight.
sadly tonight at 16,30 hours i lost my younger piggie called honey, she was nearly 4 years old. she showed no signs of illness, but in the last couple of days she went of her food, and would just hide away. i had booked a vets appointment for tomorrow morning, as the vet is 14 miles away.
i feel guilty that i should have and could have done more for her., i checked on her every half hour or so, trying to tempt her with her fave food,
my other piggie mocha knew she was ill, as she kept away from her, usually they snuggly together most of the time. my question is will my piggie be ok on her own?, will she fret and become ill because of her loss of a partner?
i feel so upset, any advice? thanks..

I am very sorry for your loss of Honey! Guinea pigs can go downhill very quickly when they go into multiple organ failure; there is nothing you can do. Loss of appetite can have many reasons, but very often there is either a pain issue or the physical inability to process food at the bottom of it. :(

It is normal for the onset of the grieving process that any loving guinea pig owner is experiencing feelings of guilt/failure. These are generally stronger when a beloved piggy has died unexpectedly or from unknown causes, especially if you cannot get them to a vet in time.

The only remark I would make is to best always treat sudden loss of appetite as a life-and-death emergency (if necessary as an out-of-hours case) and to please try and step in with syringe feeding and watering asap to keep the guts going until hopefully any medications kick in and do the trick.
It won't help if the body is already in the process of closing down, but if that is not the case, it can make a crucial difference in keeping a guinea pig alive until it can be seen and treated. Many emergencies happen at inconvenient times like evenings, weekends or bank holidays. :(

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Popcorn free sweet piggy at the Rainbow Bridge.
Time will tell how your remaining piggy will cope but please see the thread about caring for a bereaved piggy.
Hugs x

i have read the link provided, thanks for it.. i have been watching over mocha for the past few hours and she is eating fresh hay, and i have just given her a few of her fav dandelion leaves, which after being washed she snatched out of my hand, but i will continue to monitor

If she is eating now, then she should be fine, so take a deep breath and relax! ;)

So sorry for your loss, it is definitely not your fault and you shouldn't be feeling guilty, you did all you could and you did what you thought was right at that time, that's the main thing. Right now Mocha your main priority, Guinea pigs do grieve deeply but only for a few days, apparently some even pass away from the grief and the loneliness. The best thing you can do for Mocha is get her a new friend. Find a rescue in your area which offers Guinea pig dating so you can find a good fit for her. This thread offers a lot of advice of how to look after a Guinea pig during bereavement

Mocha is eating fine, but i do not want to continue keeping piggies after the passing of mocha.. after 6 years of having these lovely pets and after losing my partner 2 years ago all these sudden deaths is too much
I will of course do my upmost for my solo piggie and she will be loved like honey and cocoa who died from pnuemonia again within 2 days of seeing the vet, some 3 years ago..
So i have one 5 year old piggie and and a tiny 13 year old bitch dog,
My unconditional love will go to these remaing pets, and family members

The thing i miss every day is the sound of the piggies squeeling snd making fantastic sounds, mocha does not make any now just comes out of her house to greet me and look for food,
