Absolutely gutted to read this news, what a shock for you. It sounds like it all came on very suddenly. I'm sure he will have felt your loving presence when you were comforting him at home, even if he was not fully with it. It's so hard when you're caught unawares like that; I had a pig who I thought might not survive an op, she did - such relief - and then died 12 days later from a sudden stroke; another who I thought would lose their life to lung issues who then died of sudden bloat despite being fine just hours before.. You do all you can to cover your bases and brace yourself for one issue, and then something else comes up. I think it just shows how delicate and unpredictable these lovely little piggies are; and the older they get the more vulnerable they are to sudden issues like this. Heartbreaking, even though your Toffee made a wonderful age, it's just never long enough when you love someone that much is it. I am glad you were able to help Toffee pass peacefully and that you experienced some caring vets, it does make a difference. I also know what you mean about having emotional times with the vets recently, and sometimes in life I think it's not just about the pigs, it's about dealing with a whole sh**tshow of difficult things in life, and (for me anyway) those little pigs being one of the rare nicer bits (when they're not worrying us!) and the end of that journey and all it brings is confronting. But you're right that it's a wonderful thing to have had them in our lives. Think of all the love and joy you gave your pigs, all the great food, happy days and their lovely home. They were SO lucky to have found you. You did great by them. Take good care as you grieve.
