Adult Guinea Pig
So after putting the boys back in their cage earlier I thought I'd leave them in peace for the night and so didn't go to check on them until I went to bed. Well - I came upstairs to find I'd accidently left the cage doors open!

I'd forgotten I'd gone in through the bottom to get Frodo out and not closed it behind me afterwards
; because of the layout I hadn't noticed when I put them back either. I had such a panic when I realised what I'd done as the room is in no way piggy proof at the minute - I dread to think what could have happened. Thankfully, they were both in the cage and are now quite happily munching on some late night veg and fresh hay! It looks as if there was some exploration outwith the cage (fitch strewn over the floor - but that could have been me when I went there earlier) but they clearly didn't go far as there was a bag of veg on floor that has no signs of having been tampered with! For once I am extremely grateful my boys are not adventurous little beings and prefer the safety of their own cage!
The weirdest bit is I had a flash of 'should I check on them' earlier, worried that they might somehow have gotten out their cage but I reassured myself that it was a ridiculous thought as the sides were on the cage and they can't climb - how could they possibly get out?!
Even though I can tell no harm came from this I still feel like such a bad piggy owner as I know it could've ended much worse. I can safely say though - I will not be making that mistake again. Ever!
