Just Not Eating

Only managed to get about 2.5 ml extra into her throughout the night, OH woke me up in between feeds as he was off to work because she was at her kibble bowl nibbling but she doesn't appear to have actually EATEN any, she's just taken some out of the bowl and moved them. Then when I got up properly (I've been camping on the sofa bed napping between feeds) about half an hour ago I saw this. It's definitely much more yellow and thick than normal which seems weird, I'm happy there's no pink but should this worry me?

Is it coming out that colour? Can you pop her in a tupperware or bowl and see?

I've watched her in her litter tray and it looks normal as it comes out but I don't know when she did this wee.

She went outside today since mummy and my sister came over so I didn't have to worry about nodding off, she ate some grass and had some fun, she's really tired now though.

It could be because she is't getting enough fluids or food. Lee's suggestion is a good one to make sure it is coming out that colour. Did you go to the vets today?

If she is picking food up but not eating it then I am concerned about her teeth or mouth. Where abouts in Essex are you?

I'm in Colchester, she hasn't been to the vets today but mum managed to help me get a little more food into her. She's still drinking normally though.

Are you able to get to Broxbourne at all? The vet at Vets and Pets (Amir) would be able to look at her teeth conscious. The vets is classed as Broxbourne but is just over the border into Essex in Nazeing. Alternatively getting her to Simon Maddock in Broxbourne would also be an option.

Definitely not, over an hour's walk to get to the train station, plus train money, plus consultation and then the walk back. :( She's still really perky so mum said to try and wait calmly until her appointment tomorrow evening.

70g means that she has hardly been eating and most likely not drunk much, either (not eating and drinking at all in 24 hours is about a weight loss of 100g), so please hand feed her irrespective of a vet visit; go on full round the clock hand feeding, not just topping up. Make sure that she also doesn't get dehydrated either!

I am vey sorry for the roller coaster. :(

Round the clock feeding isn't going to be possible tonight/tomorrow because of work, I can't afford to take a day off cos if I do I won't be able to afford the vets bills. I'm going to try and get as much food into her as possible today and in the morning though. I need to get a bit of sleep now though as I am quite literally running on just about nothing and don't want to hurt her if I push too hard by accident where I'm too tired. I might try and train OH to help after his exam tomorrow. Mum managed to get 3 windows open though so she's nice and cool right now at least.

The intensely oxidating pee is usually caused by a flourishing of usually pretty harmless bacteria in the wake of an illness when the immune system is suppressed.

So it's not something serious and scary?

Not in itself. But it is an indication that something is not right with her. I would have her urine checked for traces of blood, just in case, as I have usually come across it in connection with bladder stone/ongoing cystitis issues. It happened to my Minx after she'd passed a (second) stone and I know that @Claire W had it repeatedly with her Eliza, who also was dealing with recurring bladder issues.

Okay, I'll definitely mention it at the vets tomorrow and ask if they can take a look at her chompers too.

Little update, I mushed some of her Burgess and made it particularly runny in case of dehydration, OH even held her for me and made it much easier for me to feed her, we made an excellent team and Beany managed a wapping 13.5ml! We'll be doing that twice more tonight and then once before I go to work in the morning, hopefully that'll fill her up a bit until I can take her to the vet in the evening!

That's great that she has had a bigger feed.

She is really cute in the video but I think she is not that interested in the grass so there is definitely something not right. Hope the vet can give you some answers tomorrow.

Can I just say that harnesses are not recommended for pigs as they can damage their back. Sorry, just thought I should mention it.

I did not know that, I knew the balls were bad but the packaging said it was okay for guinea pigs and since I can't really have a run out in the tiny communal garden we thought we'd try her with a harness instead when I moved out so she couldn't just run off into the hedges. :(

I can see why you thought that but shops often sell things that are completely unsuitable. Could you put a foldable run out instead? You also need to make sure that no dogs have pee'd on the grass and noone has treated the grass with anything.

Barely anyone even goes out on the grass, I don't really have anywhere to store even a folding run.

Does this mean the treats I've been giving her might not be suitable?! D:

Are you far from your Mum's? could you keep it at her's? Or would it slide under your bed?

What treats have you fed?

She lives half an hour away by car but I don't drive so I can't keep it there and my bed is a duvan but it wouldn't go under there. It MIGHT go under her sideboard if we ever get the last moving crate with all my collectibles unpacked.

And the treats she likes are the Pick & Mix Yummy Treat Shop brand ones. They're often on offer in P@H as well which means I can actually afford them.

Treats like that are usually full of sugar and may also contain dairy which they can't digest after weaning. A better treat would be a variety of different hays.

I don't give them to her very often but you don't think this is why she's ill is it? Have I made my baby ill?

Oh thank God, I'd be devastated if I'd caused this. I love that piglet more than life itself.

Just managed another 7.5ml and will do another feeding at 11pm before bed. She's being so good.
