I have noticed that Snowy has what looks like graze/scratch marks on his nose and the hair has fallen out too. I have put a little topical ivermectin just in case it's fungal but it doesn't look it. I also read that Lunkarya breeds hair falls out in places when they are a few weeks old so not sure if he hurt/scratched himself and the hair was already falling out. I didn't notice this yesterday so I think it's just happened since last night.

I took the pic after putting the ivermectin so being wet it is easier to see past the hairs. The dark patches are where the abrasions are.

My pigs a couple of times have had a small patch of hair go missing on their nose, never a very big patch only small and sometimes a bit red, but it often just clears up on its own. I'm not sure what it is, sometimes i think it could be to do with maybe a scuffle from another pig and a scratch or a hay poke that then makes them itch and loose their hair a little bit, you can always get it checked out at a vet if you are worried, but i would be careful about using any medication/treatment without advice first, as some things can just make the problem worse.

Keep an eye on him and see if he is bothered by it or not, thats often a good sign of whether it's serious or not :)

Yes he didn't flinch when I was dabbing it with Ivermectin so it's not bothering him. He might have had a fight with his brother perhaps too. I tend to have fungal issues with my piggies, always when they are babies so I thought it a possibility.

Ivermectin is for mites not fungal so if it is fungal then the Ivermectin would not help. It is worth getting it checked at the vets, please tell them what you have already used though. They can get fungal nose strips but it doesn't look like that. Did the Mum have any fungal issues? Keep an eye out for it going crusty as this could indicate ringworm.

Oop sorry got mixed up, it was enilconazole I dabbed on it..not sure where I got that name from! I can't remember her having any fungal issues except a big crusty bit on her nose when I got her and my friend told me that it looks like the mother did not clean her properly after birth and this caused this. At the time I was using Sudocrem and then it came off and was raw but got better very quickly after. The mother has never had any fungal issues and neither the father. I'll keep an eye out in the next few days to see how it goes.

First of all what an adorable piggy! second of all one of my guinea pigs has that also and I put a pet safe cream on it that is good for infections and also relives pain. I live in the United States and we have a cvs here (I'm guessing you dont have that in the UK) and its a pharmacy type thing and they sell it there. Ever since we have been applying it it has gotten soooooooo much better! maybe try something like that. Also what breed is she? she is so beautiful!

I agree that it looks rather fungal. Please have it checked by your vet and ensure that you are using meds that are suitable for a youngster.

Just in case that it is ringworm, please observe the usual hygiene: wash your hands thoroughly (ideally use disposable gloves when handling him), use an antifungal disinfectant like F10 or virkon and wash any fabrics in contact with the ringworm pet at least at 60 C (includes any items of your own clothing). The incubation period for ringworm in about 10-14 days. Ideally you separate a ringworm piggy, but if he is too young, you will need to treat any piggies in contact with him as well.

Thanks! If you look here you will see more pix of him.

Wiebke thought he might be either a Texel, Merino or Lunkarya but will need to wait until he is a little older to see for sure.

I have just applied Lanacane twice and it seems it was probably a scuffle as it's already dried up and looking like it's healing. :)

I also gave most of the piggies a nail cut as the mother's were a bit long..but I need to either read a little more or go to a vet for another one of my piggies as her nails were very very long (Since she was pregnant I didn't do them them then forgot!), plus since her nails are all black I am unsure where to cut until but did trim them thought am sure I could have cut more but I don't want to make her squeal to find out where the nail starts lol
