Haha, cool I think it's worth it - about 18 months or so ago Rodney had an abscess & that was pretty pricey as well. I got it all back. I think they're great & gives you peace of mind. Even if you go a year without claiming, it's worth it if you ever do! X

Yeah, it's always there and being a student times are hard so it's help really and peace of mind because I get so stressed haha ! X

He's doing great, full of beans & eating like a horse! VERY naughty about having medicines tho & I now have to get a lot of fluid in him
Constantly to stop new stones forming which is really hard work. Have ordered some supplements which will hopefully taste nice for him.

Xx

Awwh, I'm glad they'e both so gorgeous, and I wish them all the best, they have a great mummy obviously!
Franks drinking like a horse atm, I think it's because he has new fleece stuff so it warms him up haha!
Have you tried oxbow urinary care?

XX

I just got myself into some heated debate - woops! haha!

Oh have you? Haha, what's that?

Well I have bought glucosamine & probiotic - not sure if he can have that aswell I will need to check. It's the getting all these things into him! He is an absolute naughty nightmare for me. When he felt poorly it was easier, he's too full of himself now & wriggles into positions that make it impossible for me to get near his mouth!

Really praying he likes the probiotic then maybe getting him to drink will be easier. He just isn't a big drinker! If I catch him after he's eaten hay he will drink quite a lot from his bottle, would rather he drank by himself.

Frank is so cute & such a fab name, I love old man names for animals! Hence Rodney ;) haha

Over breeders on this page on FB its full of them, especially clueless wasters who are doing it for 'baby piggies' really gets my back up... and well it got heated pretty quickly haha, so I er, stepped back... although one of the comments was about humans not having children and I was tempted to reply 'well I don't think humans should breed but unfortunately they do' and I thought no, best left unsaid. Obviously I don't know what your view is on this and if I've offended you or anyone else, I apologise, but we're all entitled to our own opinion?!? Right?!? ha :/

Frank loves probiotic so I hope yours does too, do you syringe him water or? Whats glucosamine?
Frank spat hay at me when I tried to give him his Baytril before when he started to feel better, he had a messy mouth for weeks cos I wasn't sure what to use to get it off haha :// Didn't want to poison him !

Have you heard of ziggys piggies? Where I got all Franks cage stuff from :) One of her piggies is called Winston! How awesome! haha :) My OH named him Frank, everyone seems to like it haha, different to cupcake and muffin ay! haha. Your piggies have great names too haha! I quite like Phineas myself!

Frank just peed all over my bed.......... great.

Oh breeding will always cause a heated debate! You're brave! Haha.

I haven't been giving mine a probiotic I feel like I've neglected them now! Everyone seems to! I've only ever done it if someone has had anti biotics. I can't wait for it to arrive really want him to like it! He loves his painkiller & bites the syringe, but he hates everything else, he has anti b and diuretic for a few more days - and he needed vit c but hates that too I have to syringe it. I've no idea how he needs any he loved red pepper & they get pepper every day!
But he did... Billy just eats the tablets straight, but Rodney won't touch anything slightly odd.

Try to syringe water, tried it with apple juice (vet advised) even hand blended a cucumber to make cucumber water for him - nope didn't like it (yet is obsessed with cucumber!) I'm trying really to just keep putting his bottle in his face now, if I tap it & keep annoying him with it he will take quite a long drink so this is less stressful for us both. He's had quite a lot of bottle drink tonight. I figure this will make him wee still & if I can make him wee more than he usually would it has to help!

Glucosamine is for his bladder, can't remember what it does now! Need to remind myself. Just buying everything everyone recommends!

Not heard of ziggys will have to look at that! When I move they're getting a new cage I hate these silly grid things I have. So fragile.

Winston is an amazing name. I love it! Rodney had a twin brother called Rufus who I unfortunately lost, We met Billy who was already 9 months old and named Billy so I kept the name - he looks like a Billy! X

Rodney never wee's on me, he gets mega fidgety if he needs a wee when he's out & I kno he needs to go back in to wee. He's very polite! Haha

I should go rot apparently, how sad people are to be so mean, haha, highlight of my day really... 'I breed my piggy back to back but you, you are the one that should rot' OKAY LAAV. hahaha.

I only give him the probiotic if he's being moved (stressed) from places or taking antibiotics, I think thats the instructions? I'm not sure, if I'm wrong correct me?

Painkillers are like a guinea pigs euphoria, Frank and metacam is amusing to say the least!

Well if your finding something that works until he drinks by himself then that is a bonus!

Her fleece snuggle huts keeps Frank nice and warm which is great, especially as temperature is dropping ! :(

Awwh, I'm sorry about Rufus that was a great name, which one is Billy?

&& Well Frank is normally pretty good he lets me know when he needs a wee, but I had him in his snugglehut... and he just went because he was sleeping next to me and it went straight through, no snuggle hut on the bed again!

I'm going to check this page out today a snuggle hut sounds fab! I may have to got them one each for the winter I doubt one would be big enough for both & would cause a ruck!

I think you are right with the pro biotic, if they had it all the time it'd probably lose it's effect. I've had an email to say the new food is arriving today...

Rodney has whimpered a little this morning but where is the weekend I woke up later so he was due his pain relief really.

Those idiots on that fb page sound awful, are you still
Arguing? Haha

Nah, I said my piece and left it, the page is full of people breeding their piggies for babies... So you know, don't get anywhere! Oh && apparently pregnancy isn't dangerous. Yeah. K. Grrr.

There lovely and warm and it's making Frank drink more because he gets too hot bless him! Keeps me awake all night drinking, need a new bottle it's so loud -.-

Ooo yay! I put probiotic in his water and the vitamin c drops came this morning so I syringe fed him that!
Also got a vet appointment at vets4pets today. I wanted to go to the other one but there was no answer so hopefully We see the vet we did before - try and find out if he's neutered as well. What do you reckon they'll give because I want to pay for the right stuff not the wrong stuff. I'm assuming surolan for ear mites if he has them?

I'm hoping it's scurvy or just his need to zoom to what he wants that make him hop whenever he's in a rush. Because people have freaked me out with that osteo-bone thing and arthritis and they've had there's put down :'(

Well your awake now and hopefully the meds kick in soon!

He shouldn't be put down for arthritis anyway if he is happy enough, it can be managed with pain relief. That's what my dozy vet diagnosed Rodney with because they couldn't be bothered to xray him which is why I went elsewhere, and found he has no arthritis it was a bladder stone causing his wobbling.

They do hop, for speed.

I just checked my xeno450 box and that says it is sucessful in treating ear mites so I guess they mAy give that - I'm not sure. They may give an ivermectin jab and send you home with xeno. My vet would I think. Xeno is very good. I take it Frank lives alone? I have to buy double & treat both pigs.

Vit C deficiency also causes issues with movement so if you are stepping up all the vit c that will help him anyway. I doubt he has arthritis at a year old. I think he just sounds run down & is maybe lacking some nutrients.

A good vet wouldn't be negative, mine are very which is why I won't use them for my boys again unless it's very minor like buying mite drops. They guess at things, as investigating a guinea pig isn't worth it to them. Really enrages me. I wouldn't have Rodney if I had listened to th everytime, he had head tilt once & they said it was likely a tumour prob best to put him to sleep. I asked for anti b in case it was an ear issue, he was fine when I got him home & on my recent xray at this specialist vet it showed he had remaining ear infection! That was 18 months ago at least! Idiots.

He doesn't seem to be in pain and he does walk, like when he hurt his back before he did not walk at all, maybe she'll just say to give him some metacam in case just to ensure that if there is any inflammation for the itchy or whatever it reduces, he doesn't squeal when I touch his back or legs anymore. So fingers crossed he just hops for speed! :)

Some vets are shocking tbh!

I'll ask about the Xeno! && will he just have one injection?
Franks alone, I tried getting him a friend for ages but people were being awkward, if I find out if he's neutered today I can let Suzy know and explain situation atm, cos if he is neutered I can get a lady after quarantine, if not her BDS system isn't running atm as her boars are quite dominant ! So I guess I'll either look around or wait?, I won't get him neutered as he hasn't been healthy recently.

Someone said his last injury could have triggered it?
Well I give him breakfast now, hes had some parsley, red pepper to finish it and celery leaves as I saw them on that link Wiebke gave me.
What do you reckon about oxbow mutivitamins? or the immune system booster?
Really, he still had it? They are absolute rubbish...
I will get him registered at the other vet as I believe they'd be better asap, especially when I get another one!

UPDATE

Been to the vet and she said he seems perfectly fine, he didn't appear to have ear mites however she's treated him with that Xeno stuff, have to go back in two weeks to possibly have another dose due to any eggs that may hatch been now and then.

Woo!

I'll keep up with the vitamin C as extra and stuff though :]

Thanks @PAMELAKT @Wiebke @PiggieOwner

I had her give him a full check up including his breathing and everything, because after his URI it stresses me a bit!

I love my boy to pieces, truly! <3

Only thing is he isn't neutered ;( and I won't put him through it so I'll have to put some real effort in to get him a friend !

That is great news! Now you know that apart from his mites treatment he is fine. Xeno is the best spot-on treatment. It was good to have Frank having a complete MOT at the vets, so now you can sleep well again and concentrate on just enjoying your boy! You are a very good and caring mummy.

PS: You will be in good and safe hands with Suzy from Glynneath; she is one of the best and experienced boar bonders in the country.

Thank you! :D
Yeah I wanted him completely checked, my anxiety was doing somersaults in my chest haha :)!

Now I can sleep, I've not had much of that! Not to mention I'm about ready to lob his water bottle out my window keeps falling off!

She's not doing her boar dating service ATM, I added a comment on a post on Facebook and I'll see if/what she replies to that. I don't want to buy when I could rehome! Just want to try and get things in motion soonish as I start back at uni soon and then the drama begins! Haha

I think Windwhistle near Cheltenham also do boar dating. You can find the contact details on our rescue locator on the top bar. You'll have to wait until Frank as finished his full mites treatment anyway...

I know I have to wait for that to finish, otherwise he would pass them on which would never be a good thing! :)
I wouldn't be able to get to that rescue I don't think as I don't currently drive :( :/
