Hiya! Hopefully you guys can help me clarify something!

Came home from University and wanted to get the guinea pigs and rabbit out onto the grass. Can’t quite remember the rules over dandelions - wasn’t it the yellow heads are quite toxic, but the weedy leaf parts are okay? I’m just checking the grass area in the garden so some things will need to be pulled out!

Just wanted to check with you guys first!

I don’t think they’re toxic in any way? My pigs mostly get the leaves but they’ve been enjoying the flowers as a treat!

It’s best for them not to eat too much dandelion parts due to the calcium so I guess it depends on how much is there :)

Ahhhhh, thanks! I was certain I’d read somewhere that the yellow parts was toxic, but maybe I’m thinking of something else! It’s just nice to sit with them outside for a while, getting some revision done too never hurts!

So nice to see them! Can’t wait until I have my own place and I can take them with me for uni x

Maybe you’re you’re thinking about buttercups? They are toxic :)

Thanks for the clarification.
I always thought dandelion flowers were not good for piggies so I’ve only ever picked the leaves

Oh gosh this thread made me panic at first. I thought I had missed something and thought of the dandelions complete with flowers I gave to the piggies earlier... Phew... All is still good :))

Same here - but as I’ve been doing it for years with no ill effect I’m guessing they are all safe. My lot scoff the lot.

So sorry to make you panic! This thread was meant to stop me panicking! They’re all currently out on the grass today. Sitting with them trying to revise (and failing) as they keep coming to crawl in my lap!

Aww they look like stealth ninja pigs creeping in to distract the slave from studying!

Mine have been out in their new run today as well for another hour, cue lots of popcorning and luckily we don't have patchy grass from them yet
