Just when I thought this year couldn’t get any worse.. ringworm?

Thanks Debbie. A lot of the people I ring say they aren’t specialists in guinea pigs, so haven’t wanted to take him to them. Especially after Odin was given steroids by a vet with no piggie experience earlier in the year xx
I can fully understand that. If I can help at all, just give me a shout. I think it’s even more scary going to vets you don’t know, if you can’t go in xx

Thank you, I appreciate that so much. Ive asked at Cheshire Pet if someone can see him before Wednesday as I’ll struggle with work on Wednesday. If not, I’ll try to get to Simon on Tuesday. He’s quite itchy and twitching occasionally too, so I’m guessing it could be mites or ringworm. But if ringworm I’ll talk to them about Itrafungol. Not sure what’s caused it, but he is an older boy now xx

They have a non-exotic vet available at Cheshire pet, but the exotic vet is in next week.

I said I wouldn’t use Ashleigh Vets again but they can fit him in tomorrow morning. Cheshire can do next Wednesday at 10 but I’m back at work

All the vets at Cheshire Pet are good with piggies. I’ve seen them all.

All sorted as best I can. Going to take him to Cheshire on Monday for 11.30. I can work from home that day so I’ll take some time out to pop him over. Will only take me about 45 minutes to get there, rather than trying to find a day to travel 6 hours (round trip) to Northampton. 🤞🏻 Cheshire Pet can help, but lots of you highly recommend them 😊

Who are you seeing on Monday?

Banner update:
We saw Liz at Cheshire pet this morning. She agrees that it looks fungal and potentially like ringworm. She took a skin scraping that will take 7 days to culture.
In the mean time, as Banner only has one patch, I’ve got to apply Surolan to the area twice a day.

I asked about Itrafungol but they said they don’t immediately go with using that, and that it’s expensive. If it doesn’t get better or the others get it, and the culture confirms ringworm; then they will try itrafungol.

I’m also to hot wash everything and F10 the C&C in the mean time.

Ah it’s good to get the treatment started ! You must feel happier now you’ve seen someone. He’s in good hands and you have the experience to do all that. Hopefully Banner enjoyed his day out bless him 🥰 sounds like you’ll be busy cleaning and cleaning ! Relax and enjoy your eve - sending lots of hugs to you both 😊

Thank you, I’m trying not to stress too much! 🥰

Banner would like to let you all know that he’s a very happy boy again today! Now that he’s got his own space back, next to his neighbours we’ve had lots of activity and pop Corning (not bad for an older boy)!

His fungal patch appears to be clearing up with treatment. Hair is growing back there (surely that’s a good sign)?

and who can resist that handsome face? 😍
