I used to to showing with my 2 pet piggys it's a great hobby for bonding with your fuzzy friend and toffee used to soak it up so why don't the gp forum allow discussions on showing? Bit weird lol

@hopedaisymay11 My personal opinion is that showing pigs is bad as it puts them under unnecessary stress, promotes intentional breeding and treats pigs as an asset rather than a pet. It also suggests that some pigs are better than others but all are wonderful whether they're show worthy or not.

The forum stance will probably be similar to my personal one.

The fall out from back street breeders is appalling, where rescues have to save piggies living in squalor and ill health for a fast buck is a very common problem. I agree with the Forums stance, there should be NO space for discussion on breeding, it treats animals as commodities.

My neutered boar Norman would like to add that he is fully aware he is the most handsome Guinea pig in the world and doesn't want to go to a show in case he makes other piggies feel bad. My gummy guinea pig, Aphrodite, (no front incisors) would I am sure be disqualified from all competitions but my heart lifts whenever I see her. All Guinea pigs are beautiful but the real joy comes from their personalities and that can't be judged by any show.

My piggies are just beautiful (especially The Ever Beautiful Betsy:love:) but they wouldn't win any shows because they are all Heinz piggies (not pure bred). Guinea pigs should be enjoyed for who they are and not just on looks. All my wonderful piggies have their own unique pigsonality and I love them all for their own differences.

my pigs were not pure bred they where run of the mill mix breed pets nothing special guinea pig showing is about fun and bonding with your pigs toffee loved it and I loved it

My boys Bill and Ted are Dalmatians. They were sold on because they were not good enough to show, they haven’t got enough spots! I think they have lovely markings, but it’s their characters that makes them winners x

What happens to all these regect piggies that don’t make the grade and all the poor breeder piggies that get old and past breeding? If you want a hobby take up gardening, surfing or golf!

I don’t go to pet shows, I wouldn’t cheapen an animal for my own pleasure. There are people and rescues on this forum that have dealt with the fallout of backstreet breeders. Everyone has an opinion on showing/breeding pets, I’m not an advocate.

I don’t have much to add to this thread other that it was opened with a question that is already answered within the forum rules, the link was even provided.

Now I appreciate that some people may enjoy the guinea pig show circuit and some may not. But I have to say in reference to my first line in my reply, I really do not think this is the place to discuss this particular topic as it risks morphing into a somewhat heated debate if certain words are misread. It’s very easy to “take things the wrong way” in a text only based conversation that lacks the expression and tone of verbal discussion.

The bottom line is, this forum is not here to promote guinea pig shows anymore than it is here to promote intentional breeding. Everyone is welcome but some views should not be aired, which is why we have forum rules. :tu:

I’m going to close this thread to further replies.
@hopedaisymay11 you started this thread asking a question. We have answered that question and explained our stance. The rules have been explained to you. I don’t think there’s anything further that can usefully be added. If you want to discuss showing or defending showing then please join another forum where it is permitted.
