Hi

Is kale ok to feed our 6wk old piggies? I keep hearing so many different things. I was thinking maybe twice a week?

The good news is the truffle and fudge seem to be enjoying everything we are feeding them so far apart from pepper I've tried red and yellow but neither are a big hit. They had a tug of war over a piece of romaine lettuce tonight - this is far more entertaining that tv :))

My girls go crazy for romaine lettuce! It is their favourite. They are not keen on kale though but yours may like it.

I've heard lots of different things about kale too! I think it's def a 2-3 times a week only veg. I've got a chart on my wall that says it's very high in vit A (can't remember what problems that can cause). The chart says it can also make them gassy! So I've only given a little at a time lol don't want trumping guinea pigs!

Mine love romaine lettuce too, go crazy for it in fact! They didn't like red or yellow peppers at first either but I would advise to keep putting in little bits of the foods they might not like at first cos one of my girls actually like yellow pepper now and they both like red! They turned their noses up at basil but now they can't get enough, but they still won't touch the mint! haha

Can you believe as I sit here typing truffle is having a good old munch on a piece of yellow pepper! So far they have eaten
Corn on the cob
Carrot
Broccoli
Romaine Lettuce
Kale
Cucumber
Parsley
Oh and now yellow pepper

Not all tonigh lol. The seem to be eating very well and going mad running around truffle is definitely a little more shy than fudge although I was so excited that she took a piece of carrot off me tonight.

x

Awww, that's fab! I was super excited too when they first started taking food from my hand! Actually, i still get really happy when ever they sit with me and take food from me :):)

Nice variety with the food, keep trying new things, little by little, they'll have well developed palets in no time!

I know it's so exciting! I think at the mo the fridge is more full of food for the guineas than it is for us! lol!

Kale is VERRRY high in Vitamin C and calcium

Excellent for pregnancy and breastfeeding mums and pups - enriches mums milk and strengthens pups bones - BUT given too much can cause kidney stones so give piggies the correct amount is vital

Carrots have a lot of Vit A in

Yeah I've heard this about carrots from several sources now! So unsure about what to do, as many people think it is okay for everyday consumption for the piggies (well if * look at the Ca:P ratio it is) but not if you take into account the Vit A. Do you mind if I asked if you have the figures for how much Vit A is in them? It's just that the chart I have says it's 69mcg, and from looking down the list there are many that have much higher levels of Vit A, but then actually loads of fruit and veg have much lower levels.

Does anyone know how much Vit A piggies should be consuming? I get very worried about what I'm feeding them cos there's so many things to consider, and it's a tough balancing act :{:{

a little bit of everything in moderation - no need to worry too much about what you're feeding them, as long as they're getting fresh veggies every day and enough vit.c, they won't care! :))
