So Kasper ate a caterpillar off the floor. It must have came from the grass that my friend brought for them. So far he's ok. Popcorning like mad and looked awfully pleased with himself afterwards.

I don't think this is right at all :hb:

Benji did the same thing with an earthworm. It was only small and had gone before I had chance to do anything but watch in horror. Hasn't seemed to have done him any harm, but talk about yuck!

Yuck! That's even worse!

Yeuch! I have never had a piggy eat another creature (to my knowledge) and have always thought they are strict vegetarians! Obviously I was wrong! Hope there are no side effects - although can't imagine there would be.

Guinea pigs can and will occasionally eat small bugs. Their protein needs are normally small and they don't process protein well in larger quantities, but every now and then, they want to top it off. In pet piggies, they usually get their protein in the pellets, but that doesn't mean that the old instinct doesn't kick in sometimes! ;)
It opens up a new side to the herbivore imagine, doesn't it?

I'm glad it is reasonable normal! My gerbils would eat mealworms everyday so I guess it isn't much different from them!
