Hello! I'm excited about getting my first guinea pig cage, and I found this Kavee cage. I'm planning to house two bonded pairs of ๐Ÿ— boars.Could you please share your thoughts on whether this specific Kavee cage would be suitable for them? If not, I'd love your guidance to a more suitable option on the kavee website. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿก Thank you so much ๐Ÿ’—

It would do for a pair each, but not for four boars. Each pair would need housing separately anyway.

Btw, do check on Facebook Marketplace and other second hand selling sites such as Gumtree in case the cage you want is available cheaper (or for free) there. :)
As Lorcan said, the cage would be suitable for two boars as it's a great size.
I'd be slightly worried about the depth of the coroplast though, and whether it would stop hay flying absolutely everywhere (which is going to happen anyway, but it's possible to prevent it to some extent).

The picture does look a tad shallow, thank you for pointing that out ! Now I'm wondering if it's just the image or genuinely so. ๐Ÿค” The front is plastic glass, and the sides are all open air. Thinking of getting plastic glass sides to prevent hay kkicking what do you think? ๐Ÿ˜Š As for buying on Facebook Marketplace, I'm autistic, and meeting new people makes me a bit nervous. Also, disinfecting the cage worries me a bit due to hay mite concerns. So, I might lean towards paying a bit extra for the cage just for that extra peace of mind and comfort. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’•

The clear sides do stop hay, must confess I ditched mine though! We now use cardboard round the side, very cost effective and as a bonus deter chewing on the plastic. Make sure you buy cable ties as Kavee don't supply them or use them in their videos, but if you're getting a stand they really help with stability.

I've found FB marketplace to be a very quick and functional set of interactions, if it helps. On messenger you confirm availability, then price and payment method, then arrange collection. The handover is usually, "hi I'm Poggle and I'm here to collect the thing", they hand over the thing, and after a quick eye-over the thing I pay for it. Absolutely zero small talk required ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Hey, appreciate your response! ๐Ÿ˜Š Oh, I had no clue about the plastic-eating thing โ€“ a bit worried now! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I grew up with hamsters in big terrariums, never had an issue. But guinea pigs are a whole new game, huh? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ And oh, those hay mites got me stressing too, even after disinfecting. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ That's why I wanted something brand new and not pre-owned, as I'm a very anxious person. Can you shoot me a link to those ties you mentioned? I'm not the DIY type โ€“ getting my boyfriend or uncle on the job! ๐Ÿ™Œ Thanks a bunch! ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿน

Yes, do shop around, eBay have plastic, and metal panels, some with side doors, plus replace correx bases too. You can often get a real bargain. Iโ€™ve seen whole C&C set ups for ยฃ20 but you often need to collect

We would all love to see your boys once you get them. A bonded pair are so much fun! ๐Ÿคฉ

The mites are species specific so they won't hop to you and - crucially - they can't survive without their hosts. So anything second hand is highly unlikely to have any alive on it, especially after a deep clean ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy to be corrected if I've remembered this wrong!

I got my cable ties on Amazon, can't remember the listing but I don't think you can go wrong ๐Ÿ‘ I got Kavee for peace of mind and simplicity (plus the guarantee that it would all fit together) but it's certainly expensive! I was saving for a while and waiting for a sale tbh :))

I use these cable ties, although the grids I bought came with their own (and I lost those, because I lose everything lol). I don't use correx though, I have a sheet of tarp tied to the grids on 3 sides of the cage and left open at the fourth, but when the grids are on a stand that's not likely to be an option for you.

I have the exact c&c for my two boars. They donโ€™t chew the clear panels and Iโ€™ve used cable ties to reinforce it. I have a lid too ( as I have a dog and visiting toddler ) itโ€™s perfect โ€ฆ.loads of room to run about and add toys/hideys etc the photos give you an idea but I have changed it round nowadays.
I have attached spare correx to the sides to prevent hay going behind as my c&c is next to a wall. Itโ€™s great !
And I would get the storage boxes for underneath !

Thanks a bunch for sharing those pictures โ€“ they really gave me a better feel, especially since website images can be a bit too polished. Your setup looks lovely! ๐Ÿ˜Š you can tell you have very happy ๐Ÿท piggies. I'm thinking of going for the extra glass panels at the back while leaving the sides open. By the way, noticed you said you used cable ties โ€“ where did you put them, and what's the deal with that? Is the cage on the flimsy side? Just curious about your experience. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿน

Did some research You're spot on! Mites usually stick to their specific hosts and can't survive without them. Deep cleaning should do the trick! ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks for the Amazon cable ties suggestion โ€“ can't go wrong there. Kavee seems worth the investment for peace of mind, even if it means waiting for a sale and some saving. ๐Ÿค‘ I totally echo your feelings about opting for a brand new cage. Here's to happy piggy preparations! ๐Ÿน๐ŸŒˆ

You can check out C&C Guinea Pig Cages - Home-Indoor Guinea Pig & Rabbit Cages because they are cheaper than Kavee in my opinion. They ship direct from the UK too and I believe Kavee ships from somewhere in the EU. The cable ties are included in the package as well. We bought the loft portion of my piggies cage from them and they provided everything.

No the cage is not flimsy but I just wanted extra strength to be sure. Sometimes the connectors can work a bit loose especially if piggies are pushing on the panels. Also if you need to move it โ€ฆ.a few stray poos etc gone underneath itโ€™s so much easier to move it

Oh, these cages are seriously budget-friendly, and that tray looks impressively deep! ๐Ÿ˜„ I'm definitely keeping this in mind. It's amazing how affordable they are. Thank you so much for sharing ๐ŸŒˆ However, I'm leaning towards the white cage with plastic panels and storage slots from Kavee. The freedom to customize does come with a hefty price tag, right? ๐Ÿ˜… At least it's an investment for future piggies after my new set crosses over the rainbow. So, it won't be a one-time use! ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’–
