Hi,
I got a baby guinea pig back in November, she turned out to be pregnant:(. The babies are now 4 weeks old, there is a boy and a girl. I obviously need to seperate the boy from my girls and I was wondering whether I could get another boy to go with him in another room? Some people have said it was ok and some people said no, I was wondering what other people thought?
He is a friendly boy and I'm sure he will love company. But if he cannot have another friend I will have to put him next to them. Has anyone else had this problem? What advice can you give me?

Thanks :)

hi with the right boy things should be fine, you would probably be best to get an older boy, the baby boy you have should be separated asap as 3 wks is normally the correct time to split the sexes :) if you go to a rescue most will allow you to take your baby with you so that he can pick his own friend :)
Good luck finding him a friend

Thanks for the replies. Is a young guinea a no no, as someone I know has a baby boy who I could have? I would have thought a baby would be easier to introduce than an adult, am I wrong then?

i think a baby would be good

jake's lost his cage mate twice & now he's got him oliver to share his home who was a baby

but does depend on the piggies they may not like each other

hope that helps xx

Baby boars are easy to introduce together the likehood of having a problem when they both start getting hormonal is quite large whereas it is slightly less with and adult boar/baby pairing as they both do not have raging hormones at the same time! Equally you could keep him separate from the girls and when he is old enough with a piggy savvy vet you could get him neutered and live with the girls you already have assuming your cage size is big enough. Also boars seem to need more space than sows for their relationships to work. Hope that helps!

the only problem with a baby is that they may fall out when they become teenagers, not all do, ive had boys live together from babies without problems but i know other people on here have had it happen, you could face the same problem if you had an older boy once your baby becomes a teenager, you just have to do whats right for you and your piggie :)
