So, I adopted a female guinea pig, and i knew she needed a partner so my twin went and got a baby boy since that was all the store had left. The boy is really little yet, like the size of a normal hamster, and the vet said he can't be fixed until he's 3 months old. It would cost nearly double to get my female fixed. I had them together for less than a day since the new cage wasn't going together well, and even though he's so little, he could've still gotten her pregnant, and I don't think you can get a pregnant animal fixed. Could I just have them in different cages next to each other for a while until he's old enough to get neutured? I'm not sure what to do otherwise. If I were to get the female fixed, would he still try to mate with her?

@Durcheinander You can try them in a cage next to each other. They may like it or it may cause too much friction. Give it a go and see.

He'll probably still try to mate with her no matter which one gets neutered, but the important thing is that no babies will come of it.
