I handwash fleece liners and after washing with soap, I rinse it with white vinegar and then do a final rinse. The vinegar helps cut through the soap and keeps the fleece soft.
I wash using an eco egg then white vinegar in the softener compartment. Before I tried it I thought it would leave a smell but it definitely doesn't. I wash hooman fleeces and towels with it now too.
I put extra water in, just open the drawer and pour a couple of litres in. I do find that sometimes one will need an extra wash, usually one of the ones I use for pee pads.
