I bathed Ella today after my vet advising me as she had lice. I think she is a sheltie or coronet but she is def long haired. Shes only 7 weeks but I'm finding it difficult to keep her clean....Plus she is white so any yellow shows up.
Ive cut her hair today and bathed her. Ive never done any of these things before so was a bit nervous...Anyway she doesnt look much different. Her underneath is still quite yellow. Pehaps i didnt shampoo her enough or cut much off.
Was a bit nervous doing these things.
Is it difficult keping these piggies clean ?
Plus she just sits in her wee !
Emma :)p

On white piggies, the pee stain won't go off completely. I do keep my two coronets cropped rather short at the back, especially in summer.

I have found that fleece is a good surface to keep longhaired piggies on. When washed without any softener, it wicks away any fluid and their hair won't get tangled up as badly.

I always used to keep Elvis really short.

Vet bed is great because it stops them getting wet it was a godsend for Elvis.

I find with my white rabbit that she gets yellow stains on her feet, but it's not pee because she's littertrained and doesn't sit in her litter tray, it's just stained from the woodshavings. I heard other people say woodshavings stained their rabbits a bit too, so maybe that is part of it.

But if it's just underneath then I guess it is pee. Vet bed would be a good option to help this, but some pee will always stay in the long hair really. You can trim the hair very short around their bottom and underneath, and not really notice that it's trimmed at all. I had to do that for my Sheltie or his bum would be really smelly!

I know for white dogs you can get purple shampoo that whitens their coat (my platinum blonde sister also uses a human version!) so maybe there is something available for small animals, or maybe you could use some of the dog shampoo if you diluted it or something? It's used on breeds like westies and bichons often, who have sensitive skin, so I assume it's not too harsh on skin. I'm not sure it's ok, but have heard of people using dog shampoo on guinea pigs, and that purple shampoo is brilliant for getting rid of yellowness (I did a dog grooming course and used it). We had a lot of male westies in college that weren't neutered and peed all the time everywhere, and they had loads of pee stains in their coat but it got rid of it.

I can't get the wee stains off my peruvian or sheltie x white pigs. It's a real pain!

All you can do it cut short and bath every month but my girl is dirty again by the next night anyway,

My sheltie has white with cream patches anyway (and grey) so it's hard to tell what's pee stains or what's just his colouring :))
