having rehomed my piggie boys 3 weeks ago, they were not used to being handled and have slowly become more used to being put on my lap for a few mins each day....I noticed that one of my piggie boys has a build up of crud (not a very scientific name for it!) on the outside of the underneath of his ear...its dry and I think Its wax, his ears are not discharging or wet and I think its just a build up of ear stuff, I was wondering how is the best way to clean them? one of his ears is pink and the other one is black....is it ok to use baby wipes on the outside of his ear? I dont want to uspset him just as he is getting used to me....I'm not sure how his ears are ment to look...His brothers arnt quite so waxy but could do with a spruce up as both his are pink! :) I look forward to suggestions, thanks x also please let me know what sort of everyday look over piggie checks you all do so that as they get used to me I can give them the once over every day x thanks x :))

Guinea pigs' ears can get really really mucky!

I also use Otodex ear drops sometimes but if they just need a wipe around the outer part of the ear then I use a fragrance-free sensitive baby wipe or just a moist flannel.

I'd just try wiping what you can get to first, as your piggy is still settling in and not used to it - my guinea pigs have always absolutely hated having drops put in their ears so don't be alarmed if you do try this and find that your pigs get a bit stressed and try to resist it.

It sounds like it's probably just a build up of dirt/wax but be aware that nips to ears are not uncommon in piggy squabbles so I'd try to check that it's not a scab or anything like that. Also if it looks white or floury then it could possibly be fungal but this would probably be quite obvious.
