Hi everyone

How do you all keep your guineas cool?8) i have all the windows open and Lincoln looks so hot! his lying out of his bed on the floor and I'm abit worried. I don't have a fan, i could probably get one tomorrow (all shops closed) but i dont want to scare him as there loud and very powerful.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone

Have you got any onld towels? Maybe you could keep them in the freezer or fridge overnight, then fold them to fit in one side of the cage?

cool piggies

we keep our piggies inside with fans, but a lot of people fill plastic bottles with water say 4 of them then take one out wrap in a towel and piggy will lay next to it to keep cool. when they bottle has thawed replace it with another frozen one.
when it gets too hot here i usually sponge down the girls in warm to cool water not a lot just enough to wet fur.
good luck, sorry your summer is being so hot, we had a hot summer too, hoping the coming summer will be cooler.
hugs to you and lincolnxx>>>xx>>>xx>>> take care, you could buy him a water bed they are suppossed to be warm in winter cool in summer or even a piggy pool:)):)):)) sorry just kidding.
try the bottles and hugs to you and lincoln and hope for a cool change soon.:rose:rose

frozen water bottles.
cucumber
celery
Chinchilla cooler mats
Fans
all good
but learn a lesson from me. use them inside the house and outside in the runs!

I use a fan in the shed and have white sheeting on the roof which refects the sun. When out in the runs they are in the shade most of the time but if its not possiable because no grass to munch. I use white sheets over the runs too. I also put many frozen tubs and bottles around the runs. I do not put in plastic igloos because my crazy lot decide to pile into one:)) they have fiddle sticks and tunnels. I attach water bottles to every side of the runs. Offer many veggies drenched in water to.

Just a note, if you get a fan, DO NOT point it directly at them. :):):)

Fridge kept floor tiles work well :) But personally the old trick of plenty of shade with water can never go too wrong

I've only had to use water with plenty of shade and a parasol as the sun is in the front of a day. I like to get all pigs out on the grass but if it is so hot like it has been I put the girls out in the shed and then leave the shed door open for the boys. It has been breezy here so they have been loving it.

I'm forever checking them for signs of heat stroke but up to now they seem ok. :)

I do panick tho because yesterday by 10am I went to check them and they had drunk their previously full fresh water in like an hour, so I do panick when the house is empty all day, I might get two big bottles for their run methinks, saves the worrying and they only cost likle £1.70 from P@H

i tell you what my piggies love i chop up bits of cucumber put them in ice cube trays fill them with water then put them in the freezer, my piggies love licking the ice to get to the cucumber that way it keeps them cool as well as keeping them hydrated? x

hehe id try it its really good, and my little bradders is so funny i think he gets brain freeze wen he takes a big bite and his little head shakes, lol then he looks at me more to sy well iv never done that before. hehe

I open my window (be carful though.. Flies:)>>> ) and then turn on a fan to it's highest.

It keeps it not cold! but not hot! And not to warm..
Just right !
And keep them out of sunlight :)

I went to P@H, got the big bunny bottle and two smaller ones :) I am gonna be using three runs now seeing as the babies are seperated.
