[colornavy]Mtho 1 Snug as a Piggy in a rug!-
1. los all winows in th room th Pigs ar in...
2. In thir cag, if thy ont alray hav an nclos ara, put in a carboar box to fit thm all in snug!
3. In th nclos ara/box, put a blankt in thr, an puff it up a littl to mak sur that thy can go in an hi in littl aras of th blankt!
4. Put a small hot watr bottl in thr thats warm, put th blankt on top of it, an your piggys can li on that too!
5. Watch as your piggys fin or crat thir own uniqu hiing placs in thir nw cosy box! :D
[colorgrn]Mtho 2 Warm Tasts!-
1. Put som warm watr in thir rinking bottl an put it in thir cag to rink...
2. Put a bit of warm watr n th bottom of a havy foo ish for your Guina Pig to at out of.
3. In that ish, put som banana or carrot or somthing thy lik.
4. If th watr is just blow hot, it shoul hat up th fruit/vgy you put in...
5. Aftr 5 minuts or so, rmov th watr an giv thm warm foo to your Guina pigs!
6. Watch thm at!

1. Put a havy blankt ovr your Guina Pigs cag at night, but lav th front bit uncovr, as you on't wnat to suficat your poor Piggys!

thanks for those tips! I am constantly worrying now after putting my bunch together about one being left out, but a blanket will go on if it gets any colder ;)
 
Good tips but I don't think you really need to do much if the piggies are indoors and you have heating, my room is always quite warm and the piggies are fine :D

Yep, ditto to this. I live in an old Victorian house that definitely isn't the warmest but I live there comfortably, as do the piggies.
 
My pigs are indoors and I don't have to do any of that. You do have to open your windows sometimes as well to let condensation out and to change the air. Obviously I don't open the ones in the back of the living room as that is where my girls are but open the front ones daily for 30 mins min to change the air so it is not sterile.

I also don't like the idea of heating up food, I don't think their is a need, I've never heard of adding warm water to bottles either.
 
The heating gets turned off in my house at night and it gets really cold so I cover the cages up with a duvet cover just to protect them from draughts if anything :)
 
Mine are in a shed so they are protected form the worst but yes i use blankets and snugglesafe heat pads if it's really cool. Thanks for the tips! :D i'm already worrying about them! ::)
 
hmm I'm not so sure on giving the piggies warm bannana or any warm fruit/veg tbh.. i give mine a bit of warm critical care if its really cold, i have a tub that needs using up so when its cold they get a dish between the 4 of them plus plenty of veg to keep their little bellies full and give them energy :)
 
I always leave my heating thermostat at 20 degrees at night so it is never cold for them :D
 
Yep I have to say I am not keen on the warm water or warm food idea if people do this for out side piggies it will only warm them up for a second and then they will be cold again, but the blanket idea is a good one O0
 
my 4 girlies live outside and this is what i do..

they are in the shed free range around half of it, the floor is concrete and atm they are on shavings i am thinking of insulating the floor and changing them on to pro-fleece do you think that would be warmer? I'm going to get some insulation for the walls/roof too :)

they have a big carboard box which i stuff with hay, and they all sleep together in that.. on top of the box i have 4 blankets doubled up and i store some of their hay on top too.

they get fresh veg throughout the day, plenty of hay, and dry food is provided, and like i said above they also get critical care if i have any that needs using up, I'm not talking everyday just when its extremely cold.. i dont put a heater in because its a waste of money the heat is gone 10 mins after its turned off, leaving them going from warm/cold.
 
I leave my heater on in my shed 24hrs a day ;D Piggies are in heaven then 0:)
 
What heaters do you use, if you don't mind me asking?
My piggies are indoors, but just interested for my bunnies who are out in the shed :)

Ive got an oil one its quite small and is very warm and cost about £20

Mine is a convector heater with a thermostat so it can come on and off when at a certin temperature :)
 
In my case, it is how to keep the piggies alive in the heat right now! We are in 42 degrees for comparison 37=100).
I use an evaporative cooler.
 
Good advice from everyone, i'm amazed at the lenghts you guys go to but hey aren't they worth it :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:, some brill ideas for keeping them all warm O0
 
I too keep my piggies indoors in a heated room.I also disagree with the warming of the fruit and veg.If the pigs are kept in a shed that is cold enough for this to be necessary,I wonder if you should be keeping piggies,They do not do well in cold conditions.
 
My piggies are in a 8x10 shed with hutches open so they can run around freely ,\\\\\\\\i heat the shed with 2 heat and light lamps as used in hen houses ,they are on 24 hrs aday in winter .The shed is pleasantly warm but not too hot .I put vet bed in hutches and under the lamps ,and many a time the piggies are sprawled out under the lamps just as though they are sunbathing.!
 
Mine have 24hr heating, no need to warm food or water. Food should be fed at body temperature, I agree with Mary if bottles are freezing then think about how cold your guineas are! Ditto with food.
When mine moved out of the house the condition was that they have heating and water (taps & sink) in their shed as well as air con in the summer.

Get a minimum/maximum thermometer and see how cold it gets at night. This was the best present I had and the most interesting! Now I want an indoor/outdoor one!

I already have a thermometer that tells me how cold and warm the shed is O0 I have one in the house too. I brought one years ago so I knew warm the house was for my premature babies ;)
 
I live up on a mountain lolz, it gets very very cold! and my gps live in a bak room, i always heat up their water on cool days, they actually like it. and the food, its basically just an easier and better way of heating it, instead of using microwaves, (they just drain all the moisture and vitamins out) ive always used these ideas! O0

That is rather a sweeping statement ?, I love my pigs, they live in the garage, and i go out and switch the light off before we go to bed, if its cold the get extra hay and a hot water bottle on the side of the hutch(outside the hutch) but i have 9 pigs sharing, i have a couple of time had frozen water bottles, but this does not mean i should not own pigs and my eldest pig at the age of 5+ has just come in doors because i feel he is to old now to be on his own outside, but the youngsters are plump and well insulated ::),
I have never had a pig die on me due to the cold.
I do however agree with you with regards to heating up the food YUK ! xx0
 
mine live in an unheated shed 5 at minute as had to bring in my oldest who is 4 as she has ovarian cysts and i feel she should be indoors for the winter and have brought another pig in to keep her companay. The other 5 have plenty of hay, each other and a snugglesafe to keep warm and a fleece blanket ontop of the nesting box.

all the ice and snow and touch wood never had a frozen bottle of water yet
 
I'm so tired today, i was up all night having bad dreams about things... i got just over an hours sleep... so tired lolz!
