So both of my hamsters have passed away in the past two days, is there any way I can be sure my guinea pigs are okay/won’t catch what they had if it was contagious...

Ghost had been showing signs of a respiratory problem, but Tiny Buddha was completely fine and his passing was very sudden

I might be able to move them downstairs, and out of my room where the hamsters were, do you think it would be necessary?

I couldn’t possibly take any more death
 
I am so sorry you are having this worry. I hope a health expert will be along soon, not sure how likely a hampster illness is to cross species but they will know. Sending you hugs at such a difficult time.

I’m not sure how likely it would be that it could spread cross species, but you can never be too careful...

I think if there was a respiratory infection the guinea pigs could catch and they were in the same room, to be honest they have already been exposed. Piggies are much easier to monitor than hamsters, so chances are you would see or hear something before it became serious. I have no idea what respiratory infections might pass from hamsters to piggies, but maybe a vet check for your boys telling the vet what has happened would set your mind at rest, plus doing an F10 room clean blitz. I'm in no way suggesting this is strictly necessary, but its a reasonable precaution and might help you rule out any transmissable diseases. Hopefully it was just bad luck and bad timing that your poor little hammy friends passed away in such a short time, occasionally these things happen... so sorry for your hammy losses x
 
Pigs are being moved downstairs tomorrow morning 👍🏻
Would’ve done it tonight but it’s a bit late to be moving everything around

My worry is dampness/condensation, a while ago the roofer botched the roof and the room has had a lot of condensation around the window. I had the dehumidifier which did a good job until I had to move it away from the window because I was moving the pigs cage. It wasn’t really much of a concern but I will do anything to keep them safe

It hadn’t even crossed my mind until my mum brought it up...

I’m excited as this means that I will see them much more than I do now, and they will be closer to everybody, and able to interact with us all even if it is just watching us go past!
 
Nothing medical/practical to add, but I'm sorry to hear about your hamsters x
 
My mum says she’s thinks Tiny Buddha had cardiomyopathy, which is common in Roborovskis and causes sudden death. It’s a heart defect and usually they curl and and go to sleep and just never wake up, which explains why he was curled up...

I’m just gutted I was the one to find him... 😢

I am very sorry for your losses; several in a short space of time can really shake you.

Do you have any more hamsters in the room? If yes, you may want to move your piggies, otherwise there is no reason as respiratory illnesses are usually spread through the air from the ill piggy. With the respiratory hamster gone, there is no new source of infection in the room.

Just use normal good hygiene; the tips in this guide also apply in this case: Human Colds/flu And Tummy Bug Advice

They were my only two hamsters, and the guides pigs are definitely coming out of my room
They will be out ASAP tomorrow (almost definitely in the morning)

A couple of things will have to be moved including the dog’s cage, she’s out all the time it’s only for if we’re out (she’s not allowed up the back of the living room, so she will never be around the guinea pigs) and some other things but I’m very glad they will be downstairs
 
Thy both look good. Both look sturdy enough for outdoor use. If it is for indoor use then the only consideration is sometimes outdoor hutches like that can end up being dark inside them when placed in a house.

I feel your worry. One of my rats is on the verge of me taking him to the vets, he has alot of sneezing going on, I have read and read and found mostly people saying that rat uri can't spread to guinea pigs. But I'm not too sure still 😴 they are in the same room, but I am washing my hands after I touch anything ratty and I always go to them last to spot clean and fuss them
 
Slight change of plans, they will be moving down on Tuesday when their cage/hutch arrives

As I’m not very good with these things my dad says he will be able to put lights in, that will go off at night but be on during the day with a timer, like my tortoise light
 
So very sorry for the loss of your hamsters.
They are such cute pets and do leave a big hole in your heart.
Be gentle with yourself
