Keeping skinny pigs... a not entirely serious guide :)

Thought I would share some of the questionable joys of keeping naked hippos and answer a few FAQs...
1) Arent they just like normal guinea pigs but with no fur?

Well... judge for yourself. This is Tallulah, who looks very much like the hybrid offspring of a bat, a hippo, and a chocolate fudge cake... but her husboar swears she's a guinea pig so I tend to take his word for it!
2) Are they skinny?

As this tummy photo attests, skinny pigs should not be skinny, they should have curves in all the places guinea pigs have. They do have an incredibly fast metabolic rate though, which is why they never sit still for photos and eat a million calories every day, in the form of a regular healthy hay and veg based diet but just... lots... and they never, ever stop wheeking for food. Even if they are sleeping...
3) Do they poop a lot?

Well, hardly at all... compared to an elephant! More like as much as a goat or a small pony, this is exactly 24 hours worth of skinny pig poops deposited in a favourite bed that was clean yesterday. Not including the ones in the hay tray or on the floor...
4) Do they need those cute fleecy beds?

Why yes! Many, many cute fleecy beds. This is 48 hours worth of pee soaked cute fleecy beds from one skinny pig during cold weather. Love pee soaked laundry? Then skinny pigs are a great pet :)
 
Ooh Tallulah those curves are enough to have any handsome boar under your spell. But Ollie got there first so they can take a dive! You're gorgeous in your birthday suit 😉
Can I ask, do they pee more than hairy ones as well then? With that pile of pee-soaked fleece...

Sooooo much pee! Nobody mentions the pee, but yes- buckets full lol :)

Also the chirping at the moon... so much chirping, sometimes nice and happy like a springtime blackbird in the daytime, but on cold dark spooky nights its as freaky as she looks lol :)
She's chirping now most mournfully like Edgar Allan Poe's raven and... I cant see where she is, tried peering under the blanket tent and she's in invisible spooky night-time hippo stealth mode!

Found her! She couldnt resist adding the aggravated waterbottle rattle sound at the end of the song, draining it entirely ready to pee soak all those nice clean dry fleecy beds :) I do love my chocolate hippo she really isnt like the other piggies!
