Hi all,

I picked up my fabulous piggies yest and they are settling in nicely. They arent named yet, i am working on that one. But i do like Ted and Dougal or Max and Paddy.
As a newbie to the guinea pig game i have a question (one of many i dont doubt!) My piggies are outdoors and i want to make sure they stay cosy, i have a lovely bed for them which is a fluffy snug they can climb into together. My 1st question is, are these ok for guinea pigs? And i do apologise if i sound stupid but i have no clue, but will they pee and poo in it? Or do piggies keep the bed clean? so am i better sticking with hay?
Please be kind i am trying:(|) !

Hello and welcome! The bed sounds fabulous however they probably will pee and poo it! Using the bed is fine just make sure they have access to plenty of fresh hay for nibbling.

Welcome to the wonderful but wacky world of gp's.

yeah they'll poop on it.rolleyes They poop everywhere. Get used to picking poop up from all sorts of weird places. :))

Also they might argue over one bed, it might be worth investing in 2. I have 4 pairs of boys and none of them share beds. They all like their own space.

PS I like the names Max and Paddy.x)

Heh, yes... 99% of all piggies are bed wetters :)). Somtimes my Martha will make an effort to wee outside a bed, but usually ends up dribbling down the front of it, where it's most visible... :))

As long as the beds are washable it's no problem!

As others have said, many piggies like a bit of privacy and might not enjoy sharing a bed... None of mine do.

Thankyou! I suppose the poop is fairly solid and easy to clean up! the bed can go in the wash no **** if it gets messy. Its quite big and plenty room for 2 in it, i will see how they go as they always seem to be snuggled up (but maybe thats becuase they are nervous) I can't wait to cuddle them but i MUST wait:<>

I got mine today and I am impatient for a cuddle too. Mine are inside in a c&c cage and are currently snuggled up together in a hideyhole. When they get used it no doubt they will find their own space.

What gorgeous piggies - are they from Becklen?:(|)
Generally boars are best with one each of everything, just in case they get a bit grumpy with each other.
We normally have a few beds/cuddle cups/cozies so that we can use one/wash one per boar, at anyone time. personally i've recently decided to avoid the cotton ones as they retain the pee too much, whereas with fleece beds it drains straight through.

You may find that they grow out of the bed wetting, Sharon. I accidently left some of the newspaper exposed from the fleece oncee (I was in a rush in the morning, and quickly changed the fleece). When I came home, they had been using the exposed newspaper as a toileting area. There were a few accidents in the first week, but they are really well trained now-they manage to pee and poop in the newspaper area 90% if the time, with just the odd urine stain in the bed area, and a few poops on the fleece :)

Thanks everyone, i did notice one corner of the cage is wetter than the rest so mayber they will be good boys:))

I put a litter tray in the corner that I noticed got the most wee's lined with newspaper and a sprinkle of carefresh and they used it straight away :)

I've had my piggies about 3 months, and I find they will wee in the darkest corner! I don't know if that helps :))
