Hi all

Just a few winter related questions! I've got both my pigs in the basement now (has natural light and ventilation etc), however, although there is a radiator down there, they aren't next to it (as that's the dark part of the basement), and it is colder down there than the rest of the house. So obviously, i want the bedding and cosy places in their home to be the warmest they can be.

Was using shavings, but am finding that even though they supposedly should dry fast, they don't, and also, my eyes are forever itching, although i'm not sure if its from that!

Have bought a piece of Vetbed to try and have found it really good so will get more, but i wanted to know about cosy things to add in for them..

Have seen some Cuddle Cups on Ebay, and they look good - are they good for warmth or do they just get too wet too quickly? Also the grass type houses that can also be nibbled - does anyone have any of those? As the weather gets even colder, should i be putting anything over the top of the cage to keep draughts out etc? And overall, do you think all these material based sorts of hideaways are warmer than a box filled with hay etc? I try to alternate what's in their house so they can explore something new all the time. I've even seen some pop up tents for them! Does anyone have any good websites for guinea accessories that don't cost too much?

thanks!

I use cuddle tunnels which I make for them out of fleece. They love them and sleep on top of them and in them. I use fleece blankets in their bedding which I shake and turn over everyday can buy from £1 shop. I wash all the fleece twice a week. I am also using vet bed in one of my hutches cos my guinea pig Gus has had an opperation.

I am selling cuddle pockets and will have cuddle tunnels and blankets with wooding in the middle of it up soon.

I put a blanket over my hutches in winter even though they are in a insulated shed in hutches.

hi some of my guinea pigs are in an outbuilding i use cardboard boxes in there cage with the lid stuck down and a doorway cut out in the frount with newspaper on bottom of the box and lots of hay inside and i use old blankets for the tops and sides of the hutches and pull the blanket three quarters of the way over the frount of the hutches at night

Mine are outside but (after advice from people on here) I've covered their hutches in silver backed insulation, waterproof dog towls, blankets and a hutch snuggle, in the inside they've got loads of shavings and hay but in the bedroom bit they've got a small dog's bed lined with cardboard and hay.
Oh and they're under a gazebo withh curtains all the way round.
