Hi everyone,
Cookie my 5 and half year old Guinea pig is arthritic and has heart disease, so this winter I'm a little concerned about him getting really cold. He and his friend Teddy have lots of straw in their hutch with a small piece of fleece and a snuggle sack, along with about six blankets on top of their hutch which are upt down at night time, their hutch is kept in the shed too. Not sure if I'm over worrying as this is what I've always done but now Cookie is elderly and has health issues I'm not sure whether it's going to be enough.

What are people's experience with the snuggle heat pads? SnuggleSafe Heat Pad for Pets | Great Deals at zooplus

They say they heat for up to 10 hours but surely doesn't that mean their lovely and warm for a few hours then their body temperature will go cold once the mat goes cold? Also would my two boars fight over one?
Thanks

I think with his health problems, I'd bring him in. Unwell piggies can go down very quickly. Trouble is that means the other will come in as well, so they have company. Have you got space indoors

I would if I could, it's not my house, not my rules as we already have a c&c cage with four sows in it

You have no options open to you then, yes the heat pads are supposed to last 10 hours, but l assume they will wander on & off of it.

I know lots of people on here use them and they come highly recommended.
I would buy two and put them in separate corners, so both boys can have one if they don't want to share.

The snugglesafe heat pads do an excellent job. Heat in microwave, put under some fleece and then out a cosy on top. They really do stay warm for hours. If you can afford a couple then even better. You can also pack a small upside down cardboard box out with hay and cut a couple of doors. That will give extra warmth too.

I'm able to bring my boys inside, will they be okay been housed in a separate cage about 1 metre away from our sows?
