So, we've finally gotten round to bounding our last two boars. We lost Zambi around 3 months ago and Cally around a month ago if not a tiny bit more... I've been a bit afraid to bond them because Zuki was very stand offish with Zambi and Kenya I know is very dominant and didn't know how they'd go, espcially as the bonding between Zuki and Zambi was very traumatic for Zuki, to the point that even though they didn't really fight, Zuki was suppressed, as soon as Zambi died, he was out and about and put on lots more weight, grew thicker fur and was generally happier.

They've been in the bonding run for around 45 minutes now, nearly an hour I think actually. We've had rumbles, mounting, food snatching (without trouble) and they're chasing each other about, and this little popping noise.

Watching them though Zuki seems to be mounting Kenya a lot more then and chasing him, does this mean that Zuki's actually more dominant or trying to be? Also he runs rings around Kenya, I can't find this mentioned anywhere and was wondering what it meant?

Should I pop them in their cage now or bond again for a few hours tomorrow then if no problems, put them in a clean cage? I'm reluctant to do it tonight as I have work early tomorrow and don't wnt to be worried all night that they'll rip each others faces off whilst I'm asleep >.<

What do you think?8)

They've been in 2.5hrs now, Zuki certainly does all the chasing and mounting, whilst Kenya runs away or mounts back. They rub noses a lot, they're munching on food now which they forgot about when they wanted to rumble together. We're however still going to split them over night as we haven't got the cages ready and I need to go bed soon...

Zuki never let Zambi go near him when they were bonded, teeth baring most of the time and running away when he got too close. He seems to have no trouble at all being nose to nose with Kenya, chasing him and rubbing against him... I just hope he doesn't run Kenya to misery with his chasing. I guess he is giving him rests of 10-30 minutes inbetween the chasing. What does this popping sound mean?

Late reply i know but only just seen this and i'm hoping you tried them in the cage together as with boys you can undo all the good work by removing them once they have been together as each time you put them together they have to start over again. If they haven't fourght in that amount of time then keep a close eye on them and try them in a cage :)

Ah, I guess I'm going to have to try again then. My boyfriend is a deep sleeper so if we'd caged them together that night, I would of got next to no sleep and had work in the morning, I have panic attacks when I'm tired. I'm going to try again tonight, clean one of the cages out and have them cage bonded by the time I go to sleep.

Nothing went wrong, not one chatter happened, they stole food from each other, played tug of war, rumbled, humped and chased, nothing adnormal or 'aggressive' which I'm happy about. I think I have a pig (Kenya) thats used to being gentle to other pigs, he was houses with Cally who was a nutcase because of an inner ear infection, so would go into dominance mode once every now and again and Kenya had to keep him in line without going over the top, he seems to give Zuki a certain amount then says, enough, in which Zuki then calms down and sleeps next to him before trying again 20 minutes later. They were together 4 hours I think that night.

First night together in their cage and no probems, not sleeping together but the fact they are sleeping suggests their comfortable with each other.

Fantastic News! So pleased it has all gone well
