Being the kind of slave who prefers to go to a vet with any concern Keziah and I trundled off to see Hannah this afternoon.
Keziah has been rumbling a lot just lately but no other symptoms other than not quite being her normal self for the last few days.
She had a thorough examination and there is something in her abdomen area.
Probably too hard for cysts so we’re off to the hospital next Friday for an ultrasound or an x-ray.
I think I’m going to be feeling a little anxious for the next week.

Oh bless! Here's hoping it's something and nothing, sending lots of hugs!

Fingers firmly crossed! It is always an anxious time.

Good luck Keziah, I hope the scan doesn't show anything scary.

Try not to worry @Merab's Slave, but I totally understand how stressful it can be whenit's all unknown. I'm sure Keziah won't mind if you want to spoil her rotten for the next week though!

Awww I'm so sorry Merab's Slave. Try not to worry. I know easier said than done. Once you know what your dealing with, you can tackle it. Keep chatting to people don't bottle it up.

Oh, no! :( Fingers crossed, I hope it is nothing very serious!
We are sending all our best wishes, love and many hugs to you both.xx

Oh no poor Keziah! And poor you Heather! I hope it's nothing too serious. It's easy for everyone to say don't worry too much and not so easy to do! Let us know what is said on Friday. Sending hugs your way too :hug:

Thank you everyone.
It means a lot me to have your support and know I have friends who understand why I might be worried about a guinea pig.
When Hannah, the vet, told me the cost of the ultrasound I said it’s ok as I have a vet fund. She smiled and we agreed guinea pigs can cost in vet fees. Then she said some people’s attitude was “well we can get another guinea pig”.
It beggars belief that some people can think guinea pigs are disposable pets.

It's awful isn't it?! I remember when I was taking a pig to be euthanised a few weeks ago the receptionist said it was the first piggy she's seen that was being euthanised. She said how so many people don't bother with vet treatment for them.

It doesn't matter that they're small, or cheap to buy. They're living creatures so deserve proper care.

I've spent £250 at least over the past couple of weeks at the vet. I would have preferred not to but they're my pets, I want them to be well.

Just between you and me, I've spent £100 on an operation for a DWARF HAMSTER... twice. I can't think of any animal as anything other than an individual, even the tinest ones have their own distinct personalities (to me - an expression of the infinite creativeness of God!), and I can't bear not to try to give it a good life. Makes me cry to even think of that word "disposable."

I quite agree - we accept full responsibility when we buy our pets. Besides I love my guinea pigs

Quite right. When I found out Velvet was pregnant after I had had her for 10 days I felt that it was my responsibility to look after the babies. It wasn't her fault she was pregnant after all. I'm just glad it was me that bought her and nobody else as I know I am looking after them properly. Christian's operation was hardly cheap but he is my pet and therefore my responsibility to make sure he has a good life. Guinea pigs are lovely pets if you are prepared to put the time in that they need (and the expense!) They are certainly not disposable animals!

Has Keziah had the ultrasound yet or have you booked her in?

She’s booked in next week at the hospital. One of the vets is a specialist in small pet / exotics ultrasounds so I feel confident about the vet.
Knowing what Christian went through also helps me feel ok about Keziah. I just hate knowing she’s not feeling her usual bright and bouncy self.

Sending you and Keziah hugs. It's so hard when they are ill and they can't tell you what's wrong, so glad I have a vet fund it's been put to good use over the last 18 months!

I'm so pleased that Christian has inspired confidence in you Heather. I'm sure Keziah will be just fine.

It’s just waiting until the ultrasound on Friday and keeping a close eye on Keziah. She is eating normally and so far as I can tell weeing and pooping normally.
It would help if each piggy had different colour poops so I could tell which was which!
Apart from being a bit quieter than normal she’s behaving normally.
I’ll weigh her today when I clean the cage but when we’re at the vets last week she was only 30g lighter than 3 weeks ago so that’s ok.
I will be glad to know exactly what’s wrong though.
Thanks for asking.
Your support is really appreciated

I’m on catch up (can’t get on as much as normal at the moment), so have only just seen this. Try not to worry too much this week while you are waiting for the scan. I know what an anxious time it can be. X

I always know Tia poops she's the one that are about 2ft long & very wide. She was a bit of a pudding, but I've cut her hair for the summer so she's quiet shapely now. Lol

Just wanted to wish Keziah luck for the ultrasound. I hope all goes well and she is back to her normal self soon x
