That's what frustrates me about photography. The eye can see the view perfectly well, but the camera picks out only bits depending on the light. I know there are ways around it with exposure etc but it's not easy with a moving subject. I'm a bit rubbish anyhow at getting to grips with it!

i'm completely rubbish with cameras too all that f-stop nonsense, exposure, blah, blah , blah....
I leave the flash on & put a thin piece of tissue or thin white paper over the flash. the light gets through enough to lighten the picture, but the light is dispersed evenly & less likely to dazzle the subject.
if its a camera phone have a small square of white tissue sellotaped or just tucked in front of the flash, behind the phone case if you have one .
