Kidney Infection?

I just took my girl to the vets. :... I noticed today she had a wet messy bottom area (not normally a problem). I gave a bit of a wash and dry and made sure her bed was extra warm today. The vet thinks she has either kidney or urine infection. It could be linked to her age (about 6yrs). She lost one of her mate's a couple of weeks ago and they were moved indoors a couple of weeks ago too. So, it might be stress related. The vet has said to give her 0.15ml of Baytril twice a day for five days and see how she goes. I gave it to her with a bit of Ribena (vet suggested) and tucked her in bed now. She hasn't stopped eating or drinking and remains warm. Can I give her some Cranberry juice in her water? Will this upset the other one? (same age)? How much should I put in her water? The other Piggie has slightly inflammed kidneys too, but no infection of any sort.
The vet said if i could get a urine sample, they can test it - any ideas how?
I am obviously worried, but should I expect the worse given her age etc. 8...
Thank you for any thoughts

I would syringe and that way you will know how much she is having! To get a urine sample feed watery food and leave to sit on a pice of clean plastic such as a shower curtain and then syringe it up.

Thank you. Good idea, I could syringe her some cranberry juice a few times a day. If she doesn't drink it, I guess she isn't thirsty?
Thank you for your help
I forgot to say, She ate beetroot yesterday so it was very hard to tell any funny colours to bottom area as the beetroot does show up afterwards.

I am sorry you are having such worries about your old girl! I had a sow of a similar age with repeated cystitis (blood in the urine, squeaking when peeing - treated with Marbocyl) but it never really bothered her...sometimes the older pigs are the most feisty and determined!

If the Baytril doesn't seem to help, it may be worth seeing if the vet will prescribe Septrin, which tends to be far better suited to treating cystitis. An anti-inflammatory (Rimadyl or Metacam) can help if the bladder is inflamed.

Tere is no maximum limit on the amount of cranberry juice you can give a pig, no risk of a juice overdose!

You could try this , it usually works for me , just give plenty of cucumber and let nature take it’s course

I know she is on a relatively small dose of batril , but wach out for sloppy poos as batril can knock out the tummy (good )bacteria ,

but to be honest , if vet thinks it may be UTI the usual dug of chose is Septerin ,

NB : a wee sample is only viable for a few hours , so get it to you vet ASAP
